Report: Protest at Harman Fundraiser

Jane HarmanBy Tobi Daggert | PDA Blog Contributor

About 15 or 20 protesters showed up at Saturday’s Jane Harman fundraiser in LA. Harman and Lynn Woolsey had to go right through the crowd to get to the door–Jane was waving and smiling as though we were her fans! Lynn kept her eyes to the ground–we sent them both into the restaurant with a resounding BOOOOOOOO.

Lynn Woolsey had no response to the question “What are you doing here?” Hard to say whether she or Jane was surprised. Saw some impeachment faces and DC CODEPinkers from the past, including Tighe Barry, who just spent two months in Egypt, leading 1400 Gaza protesters in various events. Jodie Evans was there (Code Pink co-founder and PDA Board Member).

We had a lengthy exchange with L.A. City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, who is a wonderful liberal (he spoke on behalf of Kucinich when Kucinich was running for president)–he was there also co-sponsoring the fundraiser. We bombarded him with questions–but his answers weren’t very satisfactory: he claimed that Harman was very helpful and instrumental in getting the revamp efforts of LAX on track, and that his job was to serve his local constituents, and not to be obligated to answer for Harman’s “national” activities.

Hmph.

But, that was his defense for being there. None of us bought if, of course, but at least he didn’t duck our confrontation. We thanked him for talking to us–which was fair, I thought.

What is PDA's latest response to Woolsey's actions? Is is still on the board? How does PDA feel about politicians inserting themselves into the primaries, especially since they almost always do so in favor of incumbents?
