Tim Carpenter on Connect the Dots with Lila Garrett

Submitted by Bryan Buchan on 11-30-2009 – 10:19 amComments

garrettTIM CARPENTER, Exec Director of Progressive Dems of America speaks to us after his trip to Washington where he and his group lobbied hard for a healthcare plan that might actually help the people. What are the chances of that happening at this point? And how do we stop Obama from going down the George W. Bush path in this war on Afghanistan.

I have a question, If we pull out of Afganistan, and we are attacked again on our soil. Would the PDA support a war against the war on terror? I personally don't want to be at war, but I also don't want to be attacked. I am a mother of three, I want my children to be safe.

My concern right now is how much HARM the resulting healthcare legislation might cause. The problem is that it is hard to move towards two goals at one time: one being good healthcare reform, the other avoiding bad "reform". In a reasonable world it would be a no-brainer to simply pursue the good, but when the chances for the good seem to be so much lower than the chances of avoiding the bad, what should be one goal becomes two, and therefore divisive of our energy.

We've seen laid bare the true 21st century US definition of "democracy" -- "one dollar, one vote" (but don't forget to hold elections of some sort). With the greatest income inequality, there is no way that the US can be in reality a democracy.

I want to have hope, but President Obama sure has done a lot of things to show me how audacious it is to have hope.

That's our Tim and we love him! PDA never stops trying to make the Democratic Party be more and more Progressive to serve the needs of the American people, instead of the monied interests in Washington D.C. who donate to their campaigns and think that they can make them do their biding at the expense of the people they are supposed to be representing. Changing the way our political campaigns are funded is of major concern of PDA. So very much to do. Health Care for All Americans, an end to the Middle Eastern Occupations, campaign finance reform, social justice for every American... All in a day's work. As Tim always says, "ONWARD".
