Many experts see single-payer national health insurance as the most sensible solution to expand coverage to the uninsured and to reduce costs.

This proposal polls well with the public, who preferred it two-to-one over a privatized system in a recent survey (New York Times/CBS, 1/11-15/09). It is also preferred by 59 percent of physicians, according to a recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (4/1/08).

Yet a recent study by FAIR found that of hundreds of stories about health care in major outlets earlier this year, only five stories included the views of advocates of single-payer–none of which appeared on the television networks.

The insurance lobbies and many politicians may not want to talk about single-payer. But that makes it all the more important that the media do.

Please cover single-payer healthcare proposals, and stop silencing their advocates.

Thousands of people have signed onto this petition, including Harvard medical professors Steffie Woolhandler and David Himmelstein and Dr. Quentin Young of Physicians for a National Health Program; Donna Smith of the California Nurses Association; filmmaker Michael Moore; former MSNBC host Phil Donahue and actor Mike Farrell.

In the 1980'sthe democrats had control of the house, senate and the white but couldn't get anything done because of infighting among themselves. Most people credit the "Gingrich revolution" but it was really gridlock in a democratically controlled congress that caused the American people to become dissatisfied, disillusioned and discouraged with democrats in control. So in the 1990's congress changed hands from democrats to publicans. And now the same thing appears about to happen again. With the so called "blue dog" democrats in a position help the health care debate situation, they instead arethreatening to hold the reforms hostage to the demands of the insurance companies. They claim it to be for other reasons but if reform fails or is finally passed but rendered useless it will be because the blue dogs held it up and gave the republicans enough time to come up with a plan to gut the reforms. In the 1990's the republicans threw themselves on the sword to impeach President Clinton and there was no honor in what they did. But there would be much honor for democrats to put their careers on the line for the sake of universal health care and we need to find a way to let the blue dogs know, because if health care reform fails people will become dissatisfied once again and republicans will begin gaining seats in congress. Democrats have been given a mandate by the American people but they refuse to live up to it. This is not the time nor the issue for the blue dogs to try and usurp authority for themselves. They need to get in line with the party. The people have spoken!

Polling shows that approximately half of all Americans believe that there should be limitations on the power of women to have an abortion. Many of those who do, myself included, feel that Abortion is nothing more than legalized murder. Indeed, it is far worse than the Holocaust, as well over sixty million innocent children have been brutally slaughtered in the name of drug treatment "choice" and "women's rights." Well, it is unfortunate that this whole process, in my mind, is being dealt with in conjunction with religious groups; however, I think it far worse to condemn millions more innocent children to their death simply because many women refuse to face the consequences of their decisions.
