Springfield Missouri Labor Council Endorses HR 676

Submitted by Bryan Buchan on 2-27-2009 – 6:16 amComments

Springfield, Missouri. The Greater Springfield Area Central Labor
Council has endorsed HR 676, single payer healthcare legislation
introduced by Congressman John Conyers (D-MI).

The Springfield Council is the 120th central labor council to endorse HR 676.

The Council¹s resolution stated, “Administrative waste stemming from
our reliance on private insurers consumes one-third of health
spending,” and Bradley Stokes, Council President, added, “We recognize
everyone in America deserves access to affordable quality health care
and strongly feel HR 676 can provide this.”

The Greater Springfield Area Council represents 10,000 working men and
women in Southwest Missouri. Stokes is the Business Manager/Financial
Secretary of IBEW Local 753.

HR 676 would institute a single payer health care system by expanding
a greatly improved Medicare system to everyone residing in the U. S.

HR 676 would cover every person for all necessary medical care
including prescription drugs, hospital, surgical, outpatient services,
primary and preventive care, emergency services, dental, mental
health, home health, physical therapy, rehabilitation (including for
substance abuse), vision care, hearing services including hearing
aids, chiropractic, durable medical equipment, palliative care, and long term care.

HR 676 ends deductibles and co-payments. HR 676 would save hundreds
of billions annually by eliminating the high overhead and profits of
the private health insurance industry and HMOs.

In the current Congress, HR 676 has 59 co-sponsors in addition to Conyers.

HR 676 has been endorsed by 485 union organizations in 49 states
including 120 Central Labor Councils and Area Labor Federations and 39
state AFL-CIO’s (KY, PA, CT, OH, DE, ND, WA, SC, WY, VT, FL, WI, WV,
SD, NC, MO, MN, ME, AR, MD-DC, TX, IA, AZ, TN, OR, GA, OK, KS, CO, IN,
AL, CA, AK, MI, MT, NE, NY, NV & MA).

WHO’S LOOKING AT THE COMPENSATION OF THE HEALTHCARE INSURANCE EXECUTIVES?

The health insurance companies have played a major role in our current healthcare crisis. They make huge profits and their CEOs make millions, while the rest of us are denied care.

This executive compensation could be used to provide quality healthcare for millions of Americans! We need to get the insurance companies and their lobbyists OUT of healthcare. NON-PROFIT, SINGLE-PAYER IS THE ONLY OPTION.

If you want to learn more, go to:
  • Anything that the government controls gets worse. I really do not want to wait months to get into the dr. or worse not get to one at all. Other nations that have this system have sub par care. Get rid of out of network costs, let the people decide who they see, don't discriminate against providers, and that would be much better then letting government do it. We should return to just dr and patient relationships. Dr's have talked to me about wanting to charge less, and they cannot because BY LAW they must charge what they charge through the medicare laws. NO THANKS!
  • The Brits and the Candians had the same promises of everyone being covered. Now they face long lines, rationed health care, and many leave the country to be treated. Our government can't even get Social Security right, and now you want to trust them with your life? You aren't progressive, you are silly.

Progressive. That's funny. Why do you cover up your real beliefs with silly words like progressive? Do you really think you mask you liberalism with such a play on words? Of course, we know Obama likes to play on words. By the way, how's that change working for you. He promised an end to earmarks. It didn't happen. Promised to post passed legislation on the internet before signing it. It didn't happen. Here's my favorite. After years of screaming at the top of your progressive lungs about the Bush wire taps, it turns out Obama wants to further wire tapping and to add insult to injury, he wants to make the United States immune from any law suites filed against the US in regards to domestic wire tapping. This is change you can belive in?
