Mr. Conyers Goes to San Diego—PDA Style

Submitted by Clarity on 7-23-2007 – 10:17 amComments

Dr. Bill Honigman, PDA California State Co-Coordinator

The distinguished Chair of the House Judiciary Committee and National PDA Advisory Board Member Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan) arrived here early in San Diego to attend the Tri-Caucus Minority Health Summit, July 20-21, 2007, along with PDA Board Member Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona) and quite a few other elected officials, including Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) members, Rep.William “Lacy” Clay (D-Missouri), Rep. Bob Filner (D-California), Rep. Mike Honda (D-California), Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio), Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin), and Rep. Hilda Solis (D-California).

The congressman’s staff had notified PDA Leaders here less than 48 hours before his scheduled arrival that he would have a little extra time and would like to get together with some of us fellow grassroots progressives, and on his arrival Mr. Conyers got a terrific eyeful and earful of what US House Speaker Pelosi got on her visit here to the California Democratic Convention just three months earlier— Impeachment, is still on our table!

Thanks to the lightning-quick organizing skills of PDA San Diego Metro Chapter Leader Judy Hess , a meeting room at a nearby hotel was packed with SD area activists (and a few like myself from neighboring Orange County), including some who had brought our most effective community awareness tools—homemade “Impeach” signs and their Sunday best “Impeach Bush & Cheney” tee shirts (available from the PDA On-Line Store at https://www.pdamerica.org/store).

Mr. Conyers, in very short order, went right up to the microphone and announced that it was time to “take these two guys out”. He further announced that all he needs for his committee to commence investigations of alleged crimes of Bush and Cheney is just a few more congress members and it will be done.

With fellow PDA Advisory Board Members Cindy Sheehan, David Swanson, and others promising to be a presence in his Capitol Hill office as of Monday, July 23 supporting this same purpose, Mr. Conyers in his most compelling and amiable manner addressed this constitutional issue head on and proceeded to then take the same message to the Health Care Summit which followed. Again, he got the most rousing applause of the evening by invoking the need for peaceful regime change here at home; to address all the Bush/Cheney neglected and abused matters of social and economic justice, such as getting out of Iraq, and Universal Single-Payer Health Care.

I could not have been prouder of the efforts of PDA San Diego and more impressed by the political brilliance of Representative John Conyers on this momentous day.

    The Honorable Dennis J. Kucinich
    Member of Congress

    Dear Dennis:

No one in America admires you more than I and no one in America supports your leadership more than I. In that spirit I hope you will consider my suggestion very seriously.

The most credible witness to prove Bush & Cheney are traitors is Secretary Paul O’Neill. It is shocking to me that you keep ignoring the official, public statements made by Paul O’Neill in his book and during the 60 Minute interview O’Neill had with Leslie Stahl.

Because Bush declared to the NSC at its first two meetings in 2001, "It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying ‘Go find me a way to do this,’" says O’Neill. “There are memos. One of them marked, secret, says, ‘Plan for post-Saddam Iraq,’" adds Suskind, who says that they discussed an occupation of Iraq in January and February of 2001.

I wonder why you never included this in H Res 333. I suggest you amend the bill to include this evidence of treason and have another press conference.

    TREASON

Treason is a crime that undermines the offender’s government. It is an act of deliberate betrayal.

Why isn’t treason clearly identified in your bill? That to me is another vivid mistake.

The statements made recently by Chairman John Conyers surrounding the efforts by Cindy Sheehan, myself, and others to demand the Constitutional mandate for impeachment of traitors – are criminal acts. Aiding and abetting traitors is a crime. Obstruction of justice is a crime, and countermanding the check and balance system provided by the Constitution is a crime. If I was Chairman of the Subcommittee on Domestic Policy on Oversight and Government Reform I would now be forced to subpoena Chairman Conyers to testify about the following two statements he made.

Conyers claims that there aren’t the votes to impeach. If the right witnesses were called and these witnesses were asked the proper questions, their answers would demand a unanimous vote to impeach.

Conyers claimed he would begin the process if three more cosponsors signed H Res 333. On Monday, July 23, 2007, Conyers reneged on that commitment.

Regardless of all the wonderful things Conyers has produced during the years, his recent actions must stand alone. Conyers has sabotaged the Constitutional process of checks and balances. It is your subcommittee that has jurisdiction on oversight and government reform. When you hold hearings for Conyers to explain his crazy decisions, let’s find out if the media wants to censor that story. Keep doing the right thing Dennis and America will elect you President.

    Regards,
    Steve
