Please tell us how your call went. Who did you speak to? Did you feel support or opposition? Do you have any pointers others can use?

  • Miriam ffitch
I called Rep. Wu's office, urging support of the Lee Amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill. Staff response was helpful and supportive.
  • Charles W. Dubs
Please be sure to support the Lee amendment We must not get more troops killed. Iraq should be left up to Iraq and the UN.
  • Rowena Kaleopa
I called Nancy Pelosi's SFO office and stated I was disappointed in Nancy Pelosi's current stance and that we needed to bring the troops back home now.

I said it is not even a war, it is illegal occupation and therefore we are committing genocide.

The aide was polite and said she would pass my message on.

I called Harry Reid's office but got a full voicemail (good!) but will attempt again.
  • Barb Dawson
Called Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin. Gave name, address, and phone. Spoke to an aid I was nervous and didn't get his name. Simply said, "Please tell Congresman Ryan I want him to vote to end this war in Irac. Get out now. Thats it." I also gave the phone no. to my sister, her son, and a few friends. told them to be polite when they called. It was kind of empowering, talking to a person. I know they heard me.
  • Michael Marcotte
I left a message for Representative Steve Chabot, Republican representative from Cincinnati. Laura, a young woman who answered the phone, did not know how Representative Chabot was going to vote on the Lee Amendament but said once the Bill gets to the floor tomorrow-there would be more information. She said I could call back next week to find out. She did not know much about the amendament. I will call back at the begining of next week and ask to get connected to his legislative aid. I would expect that he will vote against this because of his historic voting with President Bush. She did say that many others have called. So that was encouraging.
  • Manijeh Saba
I called the Washington office of Rep Pallone and demanded that he support Barbara Lee's amendment. His operator didn't know anything about Pallon's position on Lee's amendment. I asked her to connect me to someone who know. She connected me to his legislative aid, for whom I left the message with my name and contact information.
  • Gina Palmer
I called today March 13th at 10:00 a.m. to state, for my Congressman Charlie Wilson, to support the Barbara Lee Amendment. I also stated I am tired of hearing the death toll of our American troops. We as parents who have sons and daughters in Iraq,we want our children to out live us, not for us to outlive our children. The person whom I spoke to asked for my name and phone number which I gave, and they stated they would give my information as soon as possible.
  • Aaron Dellutri
I called my representative, Rahm Emanuel, of the 5th Congressional district in IL, at his Chicago and DC offices. I called on Monday and Tuesday. I asked his staff if Emanuel planned to vote for Rep. Lee's amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill. His staff at both locations said that he hadn't decided, so I asked them to ask him to vote for it.

It is good to see so many people on this page. It looks like we are having an effect.
  • miriam kurland
I called Joe Courtney's office, and they wrote the message down with all the information provided.
  • Judith Gardner
I called Carol Shea-Porter's Washington office and left a message, as it was after office hours. I asked her to support the Lee Amendment and also to oppose overt and covert military operations in Iran.
  • Pamela Daly
I phone Rep. Nita Lowey of New York today. The toll-free number worked and there was no delay. The aide took my name and address. I simply asked that Rep. Lowey support the Lee Amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill. When I asked if Rep. Lowey would be supporting the Lee Amendment the aide said that he could not give that information on the phone but that ther response would be included in a letter to me. I informed the aide that I would be reporting that Rep. Lowey would not reveal her position. He then wanted to know which group I was with. I said that I was opposed to the war and that I get informatin from a host of groups but that today I would be reporting to United for Peace and Justice.

    Democracy Now March 13, 2007
Dems Abandon Limits on Iran Attack
On Capital Hill, Democratic leaders have announced they’re now abandoning an effort to put limits on President Bush’s authority to take military action against Iran. Democrats had included a provision in the new military spending bill that would have required Congressional approval for any military confrontation with Iran. But the requirement was dropped after several Democrats argued it would take away the use of force as a bargaining tool over Iran’s nuclear program.

    What a mess.
  • Vincent A. Ruiz
My experience was much the same as most of the other persons whose comments are listed here. The receptionist for my Congresswoman, Lois Capps, D-CA-23, appeared to have a change of tone after I explained to him the reason for my telephone call, i.e., to ask for the congresswoman's support for a vote on the Lee Amendment to the Iraq War appropriations bill, and no vote for the supplemental if the amendment did not pass. I noted disappointment and dejection after his cheerful answer. This is another tough vote for her. But she went against the grain from the beginning on this by voting against giving Bush authority to go war with Iraq. Hopefully she continues to remain principled. (I followed up with an e-mail requesting her to do the same.)
  • Marian Jesmain
I called Kirsten Gilibrand's office, got her secretary, and when I told her to pass the message for Gilibrand to get behind the Lee Amendment, she chuckled a little and decided to be professional and take my name and address so that Ms. Gilibrand could send me a written response. Too much bureaucracy!
  • Gene Binder
I called Congressman Engel's office. The aide could not tell me if he supports the amendment. They will send the information in the mail.
  • Jonathan D. Mitchell
I called Rep. Bud Cramer's office and urged him, through his secretary, to support the Lee Amendment. Let's hope that our reminder to Democrats about why we voted for them yields results.
  • Lucy Kenyon
I called Lynn Woolsey's office to check on whether or not she is supporting the amendment, even though I thought she is supporting it, and the person answering the phone verified that she is definitely supporting it. It's so great to live in Congresswoman Woolsey's district!
  • Elizabeth D Kirk
I spoke with a staff member at Heath Schuler's office. The staffer said he didn't know what ttttttheir official position was going to be but they were getting a lot of calls in support of the Lee amendment and letter. I said, please help go on being so happy that he is not Charles Taylor!
  • sharon chandler
please get the hell out or iraq.... give peace a chance... ( to quote a favorite hero!) sharon
  • Cheri Dzubak
The aide took the information down at Representative Chris Smith's office and when I questioned her as to if he would support the Lee Amendment restricting Pentagon funding for the war in Iraq and fully fund a safe withdrawal of troops and contractors in Iraq, she didn't know what it was so could not tell me if he supported it. I'm suspecting not, but we must continue to pressure all of our Senators and Representatives to withdraw from Iraq.
  • Marcia Olsen
I left a message with Rep. Peter DeFazio's office, urging his support. His assistant did not know his stand on this issue.
  • Jack Keim
I am a-feared an "end to the war" will never happen without the AIPAC endorsement. AIPAC has Congress and the President under their thumb. Israel has strong connections within AIPAC, and wants the USA to continue to protect their Flanks. Its a done deal since 9/11. But lets never stop trying but continue to do what we can to change things. I sign all PDA, etc, petitions.
  • Marie Kopin, C.PP.S.
I called Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabinow. Got right through. Aides were courteous as usual, and these two will probably support withdrawal from Iraq. Called Rep Dave Camp's office, courteous aides, left the message, although I don't expect him to budge from the corporate/Republican stance he takes as someone fully funded by Dow Chemical. I just keep trying in a pleasant manner, and thank them for their hard work. Honey works better than vinegar! I have a big folder of letters from Camp, Levin, and Stabinow and they do differ.
  • Steve Rutledge
I called Rep. Rahall from West Virginia and left a message with his staffer to support the Lee Amendment and why I wanted him to. He already consistently has opposed the war, but I asked him now to "up the ante" and restrict all funding to the safe withdrawal of troops, not one more dime for combat. Date of call March 13, 2007.
  • Chris Horton
I spoke with Jim McGovern's staffer and assured him I was in full support of his leadership in opposing the war, but could he please consider cosponsoring Barbara Lee's amendment?
I didn't bring up Iran on this call but it is always on my mind. I am most disgusted by Pelosi's withdrawal of the bill that would have withdrawn from Bush any implied authority to launch a war against Iran.
  • Mabel
I called David Price's DC office on the sixth and thirteenth and got a staff member who said he "hasn't yet decided" about the Lee amendment. Price is nice and liberal until it comes down to anything fundamental like war or impeachment. I left the message: What's NOT to support? I insist that he do so, and if he wants to represent me he must. They promised a written reply.
  • Mary Ann Maikish
Rep Carolyn Maloney was not available and her staffer Andrew was unable to tell me if the rep was backing the Lee bill but he said he would pass on the request and that the Rep would respond in writing.
  • Arline Prigoff
I called Doris Matsui's office in Sacramento, and her staffer said she would communicate my message to Doris Matsui that I urge her to vote "no" on any further funding for the war in Iraq. The only funds authorized must be for funds to bring the troops home and to provide medical care for the thousands who are wounded and ill! I stated that I, as her constituent, would be watching her vote!

I also called Nancy Pelosi's office, and told her staffer that I am counting on Nancy Pelosi to provide leadership in the Democratic Party for a "no" vote on any further funding for the war in Iraq. The only funds authorized must be for funds to bring the troops home and to provide medical care for the thousands of U.S. service men and women who are wounded and ill as a consequence of their assignment to duty in Iraq! I stated that I would be watching her vote because of her leadership role in the Democratic Party.
  • Wendy Newton
I called Nancy Pelosi's office and expressed horror re this, from an Associated Press release, full story seen on capitolhillblue.com:

"Top House Democrats retreated Monday from an attempt to limit President Bush's authority for taking military action against Iran as the leadership concentrated on a looming confrontation with the White House over the Iraq war.

Officials said Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of the leadership had decided to strip from a major military spending bill a requirement for Bush to gain approval from Congress before moving against Iran."
  • William Bogdan
Called Congressman P. Murphy of Pennsylvania and left message to support Lee Amendment
  • Debbie Powers
I called Melissa Bean's office this morning, and the operator asked my name and phone, said that she wasn't sure if Melissa supports the Amandment.
She said they would get back to me.
  • Gabriel LaValle
I called congressman Jay Inslee's office and spoked to Laura. I asked her if Rep. Inslee is supporting the Lee amendment. She said she was not sure but would get back to me.
  • V S Moran
Called DoNothing...oops, I mean Dolittle's office (Representative Dolittle) and ask him to vote for Lee's Amendment. Staffer was very nice. Dolittle lost in our county. We went for the
Democratic candidate Charlie Brown. I reminded Rep Dolittle that Nevada County voted for
    Brown.

I think we need to totally abandon parties in this country. Totally. No more "republican" and no more "democract". Everyone reading this, go down to your county clerk's office and register DECLINE TO STATE. Empower Americans and America by not playing the inane party game. George Washington would be proud of you. Imagine if 90% of America was DtoS? The parties could not frame the msg to the party, the pundits could not make vacuous predictions, the election could not be called 3 hours before the polls close (they will do it anyway though) because we will finally be holding our cards close to our collective chests. DO IT. It takes an hour at the most.

I called Dianne Feinstein's office and said I was a former delegate to the Dem Party and extremely disappointed by the party. Staffer was very nice and spent some time with me on the phone. Told me people are forgetting that Bush, in all his psychopathic meglomania (my comments, not hers) will veto any legislation on Iraq that attempts to end the war. They are landlocked in other words. I also told staffer we are disgusted with Pelosi and her playing the one trump card we had early in the game---that "impeachment is off the table." This was an incredibly stupid thing to do. She immediately surrendered whatever power the counterparty had
and in fact, empowered them even more. So far, Pelosi is doing a great job protecting the corruption, ignoring 70%+ of Americans that dislike this goverment and war, and brushing aside her own constituents. She is not living up to our expectations and hopes while she is exceeding those of the Bush Administration as far as protecting them from accountablity goes.
Be helpful if she practices a little more humility where her constituents are concerned.
She's not the queen and members of her own party are leaving it.

I told this to the staffer at Feinstein's office and she wrote it all down. Asked me for my zip code. Said she would deliver the msg to Feinstein.

    In summary:

    1. People need to register Decline to State. We must abolish parties in this country if we
are going to be stuck with only two. Empower Americans. Don't delcare a party!
    2. We want the war ended including funding.
    3. We are disappointed with Nancy Pelosi ("what in the hell IS she doing?)

    Thank you.

    VSM

Ridgway,Colorado 3-13-07 Goodmorning,America. Called the Durango office of my representative John Salazar. Aide took message although he didn't seem to be familar with Lee's Ammendment. I can only hope that John knows what it's about. Waiting to here back. Let's spread the word- mention it to the very nest person you see today. Peace.
  • Wendy Newton
David & I each called. Rep. Richard Neal's office, urging him to vote for the Lee amendment. We reminded him that, though it may appear so, his job doesn't carry tenure and that his constituents emphatically oppose further funding for the Iraq war.
  • Jane Troy
I called Congressman Rangel's office, first in NYC where the person who answered the phone said he believed he was supporting it, but that I should call the DC office--and yes, he is supporting the Lee amendment. I would have expected as much.
  • Dick Devlin
Got to Jim Matheson's office and left voice message urging support for the Lee Amendment for his foreign policy representative. I left my phone #. The receptionist said the foreign policy rep is good about returning calls, so we'll see what happens. I'll report later if I receive call.
  • Brandon
Just like I said earlier...the Demwitted Dems won't pull the plug on the funding. They know deep down in thier hart that it's a bad idea. They just run thier mouths to make idiots like most of the posters on this site happy. Well, it looks like I was right. You fools aren't getting the chance to help the enemy yet, but I'm sure you'll keep trying. I just hope I'm not deploy when you accomplish it.
  • Alicia Ostriker
Called Rep. Holt's office, got aide, aide said he did not know how Holt would vote but would pass message along and that I'd get a reply.
  • John Donohue
I talked to Barbara Lees office and was greatly impressed.

I left messeges with the offices of Dianne Feinstein, though I know her husband has huge interests through his Cattullas Investment group in Iraq, at the least you can leave messeges with this office. She has been helpful in the past, I hope reason prods her.

    Most other's- don't allow "messeges",Lantos, and Boxer.
The offices of Barbara Boxer were closed, and no messeges can be left. I could care less about her saving a piece of land in Sacramneto, when Iran is in Dick (I shoot my friend's for fun) Cheney's crosshairs.

These people have slick web-sites but I am sure my e-amils gone down the hole. Unless I am a richer type. I am not stupid. They would send me to Gitmo, as I am poor. Just like Mr. Padilla. I have a clue.
All publicity. So America these days.

Of all the aides I talked to only the Harmen aide, and the Lee aide were on the same page regarding Iran. They both seemed to be knowledgable about the push in this area.
The other one was compltely clueless, which seems to confirm what I have felt about a lot of the Washington types in offices I have encountered. I had the feeling that this aide would have been able to talk about the Pottery barn catalog better than the up-coming attack on Iran.
What is wrong with this country?

I feel that since the unelected thugs in the public housing I pay for called the White house are so above the law that I must dipense with "playing nice" and demand the reps to do SOMETHING. ANYTHING!

I would also urge people talking to these types to be firm, and very,
straight forward. They are not doing you a favor to listen, you don't need to be mousey. This is life and death stuff. They are paid by you, and need to be reminded it's supposed to be you doing them a favor.
    Think about it.
  • Mary Anderson
I called Rep. Allen's office [Dem/Maine] and while I was online the person I spoke with said they would go ask Allen, they did and said that he does support the Lee Amendment. I told him to give Allen thanks and also tell him that many Americans no longer feel that our democracy works--not that it ever did work very well in the first place. :=(
  • Andrea
My rep is a neocon who gave $5000 to Tom Delay's defense, but I called him anyway. His aide took a message and will mail me a letter with his response. That's his drill. I've done this before.
  • John Donohue
I talked to an aide in Adam Shiff's office. He took my name and comments and listened to what I had to say, regarding the War. I was greatly impressed.
I also called Jane Harmen, who is on some very important committees.
The aide there took comments also, and also offered background on the bill. Incidently she has voted against war on Iran which suprised and relieved me.
As for my other rep., Mr. Waxman, I felt I was being given the brushoff, and also the aide seemed to have no interest in the importance of this vote.
  • mitch smith
I called and left a message for Rep. Inglis of SC. Althought a Republican, Rep. Inglis had come out earlier against Bush's surge plan. He took a lot of heat from his right-wing constiuents, but he stuck to his guns. His aide thanked me for the call and said that she would pass my concerns on to the Representative. Should be interesting to see how he votes on this.
  • Eric Schwing says:
    March 12th, 2007 at 3:23 pm

I called Representative Eric Cantor. His aide answered, but she really seemed unconcerned, and not familiar with Barbara Lee’s anti war, legislative proposal. I suggested to her that I knew he is very conservative, but that he needs to hear the majority position, in spite of his views. I have no faith in politicians in general, except the few, like Barbara Lee, who at least are making good effort on specific tactical considerations. However, I do feel the problem is more fundamental. Most politicians, the political class, whether they are liberal or conservative, abide by corporate interests, class ideology, class nationalism, and as class elites, set up class hierarchies to filter out democracy for Class Empire.
  • Bob Hartis
I called my representative from NC 3rd District, Walter B. Jones, and spoke with one of his aides, Mr. Corby Pons. I informed him that my stepson, SSGT. Marshall Hugh Caddy, had been killed in Iraq 11/16/2004 and that his mother and I would be coming to DC for the March 17th rally at the Pentagon. I then requested that he relay my concerns over the war, and requested Representative Jones to vote for the Lee amendment to fund the withdrawal of US troops by the end of the year. I was surprised that the aide apparently was unaware of this amendment, but he did promise to look into the matter. This makes me wonder if the legislative process is not becoming so clogged with competing bills/amendments/etc. that they are becoming lost in the shuffle of our political process. Conversely, my representative is a staunch Republican who supports Bush, so this issue may not register on their meter?

  • Rosemary Forester
I called my Representative Darlene Hooley's office. I passed on my message (pretty much what you had suggested we say), the staffer took my name and address and said that they'd get back to me as to whether there would be support. Congresswoman Hooley does not always vote the way I would like her to do. We'll see.
  • Scott S. McClung
I just got off the phone with Representative (and I use the term loosely) Buck Mckeon's office in Washington D.C. . No matter how many times I call or email or as I did the other day representing MoveOn.Org and Veterans for Peace with the Grandmothers for Peace and other organizations, dropped off a stack of letters from his constituants asking him to help stop the War in Iraq, I get the same "Standard Response to Democrats or Bush Critics" email which you can read in Lynn Wolfs' comment of March 5. Lynn, the answer to your question "What do you do when you are not Represented by your Congressman?" You Protest, write letters to the editor and get him voted out of Office.
One last note: I invited a representative from Rep. Mckeon's Santa Clarita office to join our Candlelight Vigil commerating the lost American soldiers on the beginning of the 5th year of Bush's War. I told him that I would be reading the names of the 331 soldiers from California who had been killed in Iraq (more than any other state). I don't think anyone will attend from there but they can read about it in the local newspaper.
  • Jerry Bloomer
I called Rep. Stephanie Herseth office. She has not made up her mind. I asked to be informed when she does.
  • I called Representative Hobson and the gentleman who answered took my message and asked for my address. I am always contacting him concerning our plethora of social needs and political issues. Hobson is great at replying with a letter, HOWEVER, he NEVER agrees, nor changes his votes, in order to do as the majority of his constituants want our Representative to do!!!
  • Beverly Collins
I called the 888- number, asked for rangel's office, told my name and zipcode, the name of the amendment, and said that I really really hoped Rangel would vote for it. The person in Rangel's office said, "Thank you".
  • Guy Watson
I called Representative Heather Wilson and Tom Udall, New Mexico Representatives. I gave the message for the Lee Ammendment. Neither made a committment to support the Ammmendment.
  • Josie Setzler
I called Congressman Paul Gillmor, Ohio District 5. His aide told me that Mr. Gillmor has not yet made a public statement on this issue but continues to listen to his constituents' opinions.
  • Ellen Davis
I called Congressman Ed Royce, R., and after I told them my name and address and to support the Lee Amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill, they asked me for my name and address. ;-) I asked whether Rep Royce would support the bill and he said, "it is hard to tell." I inquired more about this and he said that he generally doesn't let on how he is going to vote until shortly before he votes.
  • betty mazur
I called the office of Tim Bishop, District 1, Eastern Long Island, NY and left the message with an aide. She was perfectly polite and assured me that the message would be delivered to the Congressman. Tim is a Democrat and has been responsive to his constituents in the past. I will spread this phone appeal as far as popssible so that his telephone is clogged with calls--I hope!!
  • Rosalinda
I called the office of Caroline Maloney from Queens NY. They also asked for my name and address, and said they would pass the message on to her. The woman I spoke to was nice and said that although she was not sure of Ms. Maloney's position she believed she was with the "Democratic Majority" and would support the amendment. I wish more people had the political conscience to call and make this sound louder.
  • Nancy Tally
I called Congressman Moore (Ks-3) I asked if he would support Lee's resoluton, The staffer said she would send me a letter on
where the Congressman stands, I'm sure I'm going to get the ran around, I'm tired of them not being with the voters.
  • Harry Kershner
I called Earl Blumenauer's office. He is a sleazy Blue Dog from Oregon who always finds a way to fail to take responsibility, and this was no exception. When I confronted him at a town meeting and asked if he would pledge to vote against the supplemental, he said that he couldn't until he had seen the final wording. Today, his office worker said first that she didn't know the Lee Amendment; then, after I explained it to her, she said that Earl hadn't seen it yet. It's possible that Earl hasn't met Barbara yet. Barbara Lee, as ever, speaks for me.
  • Tom Pickens
I contacted a staffer for Jerry MeNerney (11 district, Ca) using the 800 number given, and delivered the message. The Staffer did not know Mr McNerney's position on the Lee amendment (No surprise. They are probably instructed not give this info even if they know unless the congressman has a very strong position.) I was I advised that I would receive a reply to my question, although the reply will probably only be an acknowledgement that they got my message and thanks for sending it. If it is more than that, I'll let you know.
  • William C Dolan
Called Dave Obeys office left message with his secretary recommending he vote for Lee Amendment
  • Christine Whaley
I called Marilyn Musgraves office. She always votes with Bush and supports the war, she too would follow him over a cliff! The woman who answered was very nice. I told her that it was Musgraves sworn duty to represent her constituents and that the people have spoken, support for the war is gone and that I insist she support Barbara Lee's resolution to fund ONLY the safe withdrawal of our troops and that we fund WHATEVER CARE is needed by those troops upon return. Not another penny for this illegal war.
I said that she will be held accountable for her vote. I also asked why Marilyn doesn't like her constituents visiting her local offices here in Colorado.
  • Esteleen Westby
Called Shelley Berkely and left a messege with an aide.

    Thank you
  • Bob Wilson
Called D Matsui's D.C. office on Monday and spoke to an aid named Kimberly who took my comments and asked for my name and address. Matsui has long claimed to be against the war but has voted for all the approations bills. Anti war activists are doing a sit-in at her office in Sacramento, going to the office to talk to her and staying until closing "in case she stops by."
  • James Kwak
I called Heather Wilson's office (REP, NM) and told the staff member who answered that I support withdrawal from Iraq and the Lee amendment. She took my name & address and stated she would pass the message on to Rep. Wilson.
  • Sarah Jacobus
I called Rep. Jane Harman's (D-CA 36th District) and urged her to vote for the Lee amendment. When I asked the staff person I spoke with if
Rep. Harman would in fact support that amendment, she said, "I can't confirm that at this time." That probably means no, though Harman
has pulled some surprise votes on the progressive side since her challenge in the last Democratic primary from a REAL progressive, Marcy Winograd.
  • Peggy
I called Susan Davis' office (D-San Diego), and was told the message would be passed on to her.
  • I spoke with Rep. Stupak's aide and assured him that I would be at the townmeeting on Friday when Rep. Stupak will be there. I asked if Rep. Stupak would support the Lee ammendment and was told he did not know. I think he does know but didn't want to tell me. We have been in direct contact with Rep. Stupak regularly and it seems that although he is against the war, he is willing to go along with the Dem. caucus group. I have sympathy for their situation but not at the cost of continuation of this loss of lives.
  • Susan
I spoke to someone in Rep. Sires' office, and she didn't know what his position on the Lee amendment was, but she recorded that I called and my position.
  • Jesse Spurgeon
Congressman Doc Hastings, Republician, WA State, follows the party line. He is pro-War and pro-Bush.

I asked him to support the Lee amendment to fully fund a safe withdrawal of our troops to safety before another 3000 of our American Troops were killed.
  • Roselyn Nelson
I called Congressman Rahall--spoke with the Assistant. They were very nice and said they would give the Congressman my message to vote for the Lee amendment which would fully fund a safe withdrawal of our troops and bring them home.
  • Gail Lelyveld
I called Representative Israel. The assistant was very nice and said He would let the Rep know my thoughts. I just said that I wanted him to vote for the Lee amendment which would fully fund a safe withdrawal.
  • Carmelita Becnel
Hello all! I called my representative, David Price (D-NC 4th Dist.) and spoke with an "assistant" who was very friendly and polite and took my message to forward to Mr. Price. He also asked for my contact info and email for a "personal response" from Mr. Price. I'm crossing my fingers....
  • Michael Korn
Hi to all, I called my my representative, Ed Towns (D-NY 10th Dist.) and the woman I spoke to pushed me up the food chain to the senior policy advisor, Mr. Alexander Beckles, who of course wasn't in so I left a message on his answering machine. I think that the reason why I was even pushed up the chain is because I mentioned that Cong. Towns is actually a member of the Out-of-Iraq Caucus. So I hope he'll do the right thing and vote for the Lee amendment. Peace!
  • Chad
Rep Keith Ellison (MN), co-chairs the Out of Iraq caucus, but would not reveil if he supports the Lee Amendment or not.
  • Robin Friend
I spoke with an aide in Rep Adam Smith's office. He said Rep Smith is not yet sure how he will vote (is enroute from WA state to DC), but said he will definitely pass on my comment. Rep Smith usually votes pretty progressively, but also represents a large military constituency. He is not happy about the war and the dishonesty that led to it, but it is questionable whether he will vote with dollars to bring troops home immediately.
  • DeEtte
I talked to an aide in Rep. Blumenauer's DC office. He was very receptive and said Blumenauer would probably support it. I also asked him about the news about an additional 8,000 troop escalation that I heard over the weekend. He said he assumed that this number was part of the previously announced 21,500 escalation. (This sounds contrary to the news reports.) I told him I was opposed to the 21,500 and even more opposed to the 8,000 if that is additional.
  • Stan Beattie
Left msg for Rep. Knollenberg, Dist. 9, Mich.
  • Brandon
The Dems want to act like they want to retreat from the war, but they don't have the balls to do it. They know that it would be a bad idea to leave, and that's why the majority won't support it. We need to stay there till we are finshed, THEN COME HOME. I'm headed back over there in a few months an I sure hope you anti-war crybabies don't kill the funding while I'm over there busting my butt for you.
  • John Skelly
I called Representative Sires (D-NJ13) and left a message with his aide asking him to support the Lee Amendment. The aide was not familiar with the issue and did not know how Rep. Sires was planning to vote. I took the opportunity to give the aide a short summary of the issue and the need to end the American involvement in Iraq. I was promised a followup letter that would explain how Rep. Sires voted. He has spoken and voted in opposition to the war in the past so I am hopeful.
  • Maureen Murphy
I called my Conrgressman Barney Frank. I spoke to an administrative assistant who said Barney Frank would NOT be voting for this bill. I called Senator Ted Kennedy's office. I spoke to an administrative assistant who said he has not decided yet that it has not come to the floor. I called John Kerry's office. I spoke to an administrative assistant who said that they are still debating the Homeland Security Act, so a decision at this time would be premature. I reminded all of the people to whom I spoke that Democrats were swept in to power on a single issue. End the war in Iraq.
  • Lynn Russ
I called Harry Mitchel's office. An aide answered. I told him Mr Mitchel needed to support the Lee Admendment. I asked if Mr Mitchel was leaning in that direction. He said he was not sure. He said the staff was working on the bill now. I told him the bill was coming up soon and this was vital. He took my name, address and phone number. I told him I voted for Harry (which I did) and hoped he would serve his constituents well. The aide thanked me for calling.
  • Carl Hassell
I called this morning and left the message with a nice lady, who said she would pass it on.
  • Suzanne Ferroggiaro
    March 12th, 2007, at 7:50am
Spoke to aide in Rep. Doolittle's office; told him I represented 12 of my family members in urging Doolittle to support the Lee Amendment; he took my name and address; didn't know how Doolittle was leaning on the Lee Amendment or when it would come up for a vote.
  • Giovanna Lepore
Left a message for my representative Kirstan Gillibrand who is opposed to the "surge". Ask for a reply.
  • Charlotte Podolsky
Spoke to aide in Congressman Gary Ackerman's office .Expressed my strong support for Lee Amendment and asked that he urge the Congressman to vote yes. He thanked me and asked for my name and address. Left messages for Senators Schumer and Clinton with same response from their aides.
  • Gila
I spoke with Chris Van Hollan's (D-MD) LA and he said that Rep Van Hollan is still considering his position. Any Maryland District 8 voters out there - call Van Hollan today!
  • Protest Warrior
I called my Senators and Congressman and told them to support our troops and their mission. We must send the message to the terrorists and other countries that we will not back down in the face of adversity. The Iraq government is only months old and must be given the chance. al-Qeada is driving the insurgency and must be defeated.
  • Kathryn Folk
I called Rep. Loebsack of Iowa. The person was friendly but did not know what the congressman's position was. She said she would pass it on. I will call again later. She did not take my name or any other information!
  • Dan Mason
I spoke at length with someone in Rep. Chris Carney's office. I told her I supported the "Lee Amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill to fully fund a safe withdrawal of our troops." I suggested that since Haliburton had made their billions of dollars, we might as well bring them home too.

She asked if there was anything else. I invited Rep. Carney to the demonstration this Saturday at the Pentagon. I forwarded her the email I received yesterday with information about the demonstration.
  • Jim & Dianna Travis
We called Rep. Carnahan and left message with aide who will pass it on. Rep Carnahan has not decided yet, hopefully more will call and end this expensive war.
  • Ed Bender
Left a message with Congresswoman Slaughter's office. They said they would pass the message along. Let's see what happens.
  • B Rose
Markey (MA) undecided on supporting Lee Amendment as of 10pm 3/12
  • Barbara Briemer
Called Mike Ferguson (R) NJ office today.
Stated the desire to vote for the Lee Amendment . . .
will he? She said she would pass along my comments.
Additionally, I sincerely hoped that Ferguson and others would be working to ensure that this president has no idea that he can attack Iran.
Should that happen, I would envision a speedy -- very speedy -- impeachment.
  • BigDaddy
I called all my representatives and told them I know that everyone is anti-war. I am anti-war. But I am not anti-victory. It is imperative to leave Iraq a country that can govern, sustain, and defend itself.

The violence is predominately in only 3 out of 18 provinces. The new commander has a plan to win the peace by providing the security needed in these 3 provinces to further the political process. We cannot cut and run, or up to millions will die almost immediately.
  • Wil
I spoke with Rep. Lipinski, Ill. office this morning abut the Lee amendment. The staff was not aware of such an item, however did agree to speak with him about it today and to communicate a response to me.

    Wil Rutt
  • Brandon
Thanks for helping to defund th troops while they are in the middle of a war. Thanks for trying to take away the money for ammo and armor to keep them safe until they come home. Thanks for helping out the terrorist and helping us to lose this war. By the way, I am a soldier in the US army, fighting for your sorry asses.
  • sue h
Got through to Rep Dingell. The person answering the phone said that she did not know what the Lee Ammendment was. I brought her up to snuff, she took my name and address. I have confidence that Dingell will do the right thing.
  • Jamie Koroch
Calling my Representative was an exercise in confidence once again. I fully expect Rep. Jim McDermott (W)to support this Adams Amendment to the appropriations bill, as he has been a courageous voice to prevent war before it started and to end war once it was clear there were few like him with any backbone. He is a man to be admired - his phone representative took my name and told me she would be passing my message along.
  • Jef Schultz
I participated in a conference call Thurs, a.m. with Mike Thompson and others from CD1 in North California. When asked if we could count on him to vote to cut funding for any supplemental Thompson stated unequivocally "NO." When asked by a rep. from Military Families Speak Out if he realized that a yes vote would make this not only a BushCo war but a Democratic Party war, he went off on a tirade and ended up leaving the phone call. It was one of the more immature displays from a public official I had seen in a while. Guess we know where Thompson's at.
  • Mary Townsend
I called Rep. Wu, Sens. Wyden and G. Smith, Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, and all others you recommended. It was early morning there and a few seemed surprised at the call. All assistants said they would forward my comments on. Hoyers office seemed surprised at the wording and how specific the recommendation was. I still feel Sen. Smith is just going along when it is safe for him to do so, as he faces re=election here in Oregon. Time will tell I guess.
  • Martha Scheer
I called my Republican Reps office, Todd Akin, 2nd dist. Missouri and left a message. He is a very right-wing Republican who does not really represent our district. it is puzzling-no decent Dem ever reuns for that seat.
  • Ida Nissen
I called Representative Jeff Miller and left message with his aide. I also called and left messages with staff for Representatives Louise Slaughter, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emanuel, and James Clybourn.
  • Donna Schall
I called my Representative, Steve LaTourette, and asked him to support funds only for the withdrawal of our troops. The receptionist took my message.
  • David and Betty Batty
    PDA AND FRIENDS:
Contacted all of my Congressional Representatives and received polite acceptance of my issues regarding funding for withdrawal along with my appeal of no illegal amnesty/guestworker programs.
    Thanks,
  • DocJames
Gave AZ Rep. Harry Mitchell a call and his staff was unsure of his leanings on the issue of funding peace through withholding Bush-war funds. Gave the stop-war talk and she assured me she'd give him the message and be more aware of his votes.
  • anita simons
i called from California: Sen Boxer and Sen Feinstein - support troop withdrawal; Rep Bilbray does not - I left messages - nothing will change Bilbray's mind
  • geno scalzo
it is of the utmost importance to convince the spineless legislators to act on impeachment. this should be the goal, in an environment of misconception and corruption that has characterized this govt from its first day. to overlook this important tool that demands accoutabitilty, is to sanction the murders forever, and to watch like sheep the disintetgration of the fiber of our constitution and the rights weve somehow forgotten to hold dear.
  • Richard DiMatteo
Spoke to a staff member for Susan Davis, who said that the message would be relayed to Rep. Davis. Davis is a good Congressperson, among the most progressive in Washington.
  • Beth
I called my congressman democrat Tom Allen of Maine and the aide was very responsive to my request since Tom Allen has been against the war from the very beginning and voted no for the war resolution saying it would be wrong and a disastrous war. Yet Allen always voted for extreme spending of the war throughout the years.
I called republican Senator Snowe and Republican Senator Collins also and their aides were receptive and just said they'd pass on the message but I do know they have been very against the president's decision for the increase in troops and am very sure they will vote against the supplemental.
I will be contacted by my congressmen and senators by letter and can tell you their detailed communication/response to me. My republican senators have failed me when they voted for the war and pretty much allowed the president to do whatever he wanted for the war and to allow war profiteering(they both voted no to stop war profiteering and no to allow war profiteering to be criminalized from 2004-2006). I wonder if the republicans who voted against war profiteering got some of the profits....
  • Thomas Milcarek
I called about 6 or 8 Congress people telling them no supplemental without the amendment to fully fund withdrawal by dec 07... Most were positive in taking my ideas and reporting it to the congressperson... The *%@# of the pelosi/reed proposal to have a deadline of dec 08 makes me soo angry I could..................fill in the blank but it is not for family consumption and could get me a visit from the bush goons. When will this insaniety stop and the main stream democrats stop supporting this lying murdering coward and put him in prison where he and his gang belong... God,if there is a God help us all stop this insane criminality...
  • Susaan
I called my Congressman Barney Frank and the aide I spoke with said that Barney has been against the war for a long time, and while the amendment is still being drafted, he was confident that Barney would vote No on the Supplemental unless the amendment for a fully funded withdrawal is approved in which case he would vote For it. Another Congressman with his head screwed on straight ...
  • Judy Kemp
I called Darlene Hooley's office and spoke to an aide. I asked her to vote against the supplemental unless the amendment was attached. The aide said she would pass the request along to Hooley. Hooley has always been very good at responding to me, as I am a regular caller and e-mailer.
  • Janet Weil
My husband called Congressman George Miller's office (CA)on Monday and left a "no on the supplemental" message with the first person who answered the phone, who was polite. I have called on Tuesday and again today, leaving my name, town and zip code although I was not asked for that info. I took a chance and called Obey's DC office at 5:30 PM, DC time with the message of "kill the supplemental"; the office was still open and a staffer took the message, didn't ask if I was a constituent. On Wednesday I helped organize and lead a Teach-in with over 20 participants at Pelosi's SF office, which was basically an hour and a half lobbying session with Pelosi's District Director, Dan Bernal.
  • David Duckworth
I called Nydia Velazquez's office today and spoke to an assistant. I told him that I do not support any spending on the continuing occupation of Iraq and will only support spending that brings our troops home.
  • Kathryn Edwards
I sent an email to all my representatives in Congress today. I ask them not fund the war in Iraq, but fund bringing our troops home.
I asked them to start enforceing our immigation laws.
I asked them to start impreachment hearings on President Bush and Vice-president Cheney.
I usually get a letter back from them stating their views. I'm waiting to see what they have to say about this email. I'm from a super red state so you can imagine my frustation to most of their answers.
  • Susan Donaldson
I just now phoned Rep. Norm Dicks's office and spoke with an aide, to ask for the fully funded withdrawal and otherwise not to vote for the $93 billion. The aide said he'd pass the message on, but sounded sceptical.
  • paul sawter
We must end the wars and the U.S. expansion in the Middle East and Central Asia--this is a begining only. All the bases and extension of military power must be ended. If this measns higher gas prices beyond the $3.00/ballon here today so be it.

The #700 billion military budget should be cut to $200 billion next year and the money put into a good universal health plan like most other industrial nations, good public education, and affordable housing---then whettled down from there to a true defense corps--the disarming of all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
  • Only someone with "Democrat" in their name could suggest that this pathetic proposal is a plan for withdrawal - voting NO on the supplemental funds for escalating war is THE plan for withdrawal of our troops.

This is a thinly disguised Democrat political strategy to end war a few months prior to an election that they want desperately to win.

Shame on the PDA and Democrats who accept this timid at best 'proposal'.

NO MORE FUNDS for war. Period. No excuses, no compromises, no bullshitting.
  • Ann Peck Hood
I called Slaughter's office. The aid told me she would pass it on.
She acted excited when I told her Rochester. She went on to say the phones have been ringing off the hook but I was one of the few calls from Louise's district. I told her that everyone I knew in this district was against this war.
  • Tim Hermes
Called Rep. Keith Ellisons office today (3-8-07)
The staffer took all my info and added me to their email list.
I told them i was calling for PDA and Veterans For Peace.
Expressed my support for his call to tie supplemental funding to a troop withdrawal by Dec. 31, 07.
  • Whatever bill passes is certain to face a filibuster in the Senate and a veto in the White House.
How can we end the war? It only takes 41 Senate votes to end the war.
    See: www.FilibusterForPeace.org
    PLEASE SIGN AND CIRCULATE WIDELY.

"We should start now to talk about filibustering for the saving of lives and of our country."
    John Kerry, April, 1971
    Why not now?
  • Alma Quesnel
Due to a series of complications in my life, I was unable to call until Thursday. I am very sorry, but I have done it. I have printed the e-mail and passing it around to my friends and coworkers. Thanks for organizing this.

  • David Fodge
Called all three of my national reps yesterday(Senators Harkin-D & Grassley-R and Congressman Loebsack-2nd IA) at about 1230 Central. Asked all three to withhold funding but prefaced the Grassely call with; "I know I'm pissin' into the wind here...", because Grassely is a hardcore Bush lapdog. The rest of the call was very civil though. Why take it out on the staff.
  • Barbara Silverstein
I called all three of my representatives: Senator Specter, whose staffer said thanks and quickly hung up, Senator Casey's office, whose staffer was more receptive, asked for my zip code and town, and promised to pass along my thoughts, and Rep. Fattah's office, whose staffer did the same and even asked for my name. I too, by the way, had to hang up one of the times I dialed the 888 number because I got a huge amount of jagged noise and could hear the operator only faintly behind it. When I called again, however, it was clear.
  • Pat Duncan
I called Congressman Duncan Hunter today - Tues. They said thank you for the call.
  • Don Lipmanson
Reached aides in Sen. Feinstein's and Congressman Mike Thompson's (CA-1) offices, message at Boxer' s SF office; Message = the Iraq war is unwinnable for the U.S., where domestic conditions have so deteriorated that injured troops vegetate in squalor. Enough with this monumental waste of scarce public funds.
  • Don Lipmanson

  • I got through to the offices of Bob Filner, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and Stenny Hoyer. Did it in two or three calls by asking one office to transfer me to another.

Each was very courteous, took my name and info, and made no commitments other than to pass the request on - but I am very glad I called. They all need to hear from us!
  • Lorna
Rep. Royce of Orange County, California is my representative. I called his office in Fullerton rather than Washington, DC as far fewer people are trying to get through at that number. His assistant was polite & took my comment, name, address, & 9 digit zip code. I do not know if calling changes his mind as he seems to always the same way regardless. I will keep trying. Representatives to Congress are supposed to listen to their constituents... some day he might.
  • Diana Cunningham
Buck McKeon is my Representative. He is a very conservative Republican whose loyalty is to the President, not his constituents nor the American people. I doubt it will do any good, but the young man that answered was nice and said he would pass my comments along. You never know, 'Buck' could have some kind of epiphany!
  • Theodore Voneida
I called Representative Timothy Ryan's (Ohio) office and spoke with a legislative assistant. He was most receptive to my suggestion, and was fully aware of the situation. He assured me that he would pass my request on to Congressman Ryan.
  • Rita de Quercus
CA: Left a message with Rep. Doolittle's office. Sen. Boxer's line was busy. Sen. Feinstein's aide said she wouldn't vote to cut off funding because it would be the end of the Democratic party's control. I said the Dems are in power now only because the public wants the war to end. What's needed is for the Dems to have some guts and cut off the funding. A bit testy exchange you might say. Too bad!
  • Russell Novkov
I have just called my Senators Herb Kohl's and Russ Feingold's Office and I had left a message with one of their staffers and they said that they will pass the word. I have also called my Representative Tammy Baldwin's Office and one of her staffers have said the same thing.
  • Fredrica M. Breidenstein
I called Rep. Gerlach's office - perfunctory Thank you; Sen. Casey and Senator Specter, warmer; Speaker Pelosi and Congresswoman Louise...; they sounded poitive, but overwhelmed! Good luck to all of us as citizens and especially our troops and their families. May our troops come home safely and SOON!
  • Eileen Kreutz
Called both Senator Snowe and Collins, in ME. Had my message recorded. Took a while to get in -- lines are busy. This is good.
  • I called Rep. Jerry Weller's office. He's staunchly with Bush on everything, too bad we couldn't unseat him in 2006. But his aide was very gracious, took my name and address, and wrote down everything I told her, that I wanted him to vote FOR the amendment to the supplemental, but if it didn't pass, to vote AGAINST the supplemental. This was late in the day, 4:15 Eastern.

One thing I'd like to tell Democratic leadership (and I am one), we only elected them in 2006 because they weren't Republicans (and we knew what we'd have with Republicans). That doesn't mean Dems get a pass, unless they DO WHAT WE THE PEOPLE WANT THEM TO DO. This is a new concept in Washington, I realize.

Because of this Administration's violations of the Constitution, we the people deserve to have IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS begin as SOON AS POSSIBLE. If impeachment is off the table for this President's Constitutional violations, then what could possibly constitute impeachable offenses? Democrats owe the people their best representation---they owe this President nothing (okay, they can be RESPECTFUL when they impeach him, I'll give him that).
  • Carol Coakley
Got through easily to Pelosi's office and just left a message with an unnamed aide.
The same with , leaving a message with Daniel McGlinchy at Barney Frank's office.
I left this question, "I wonder if Congress thinks the American people are so dumb, that they would confuse supporting the troops to withdraw them versus supporting the troops to continue to send them into a immoral, illegal and unwinnable war?"
  • Margaret Lawrence
I called Cong. Bilbray (R). I said I wanted us to stop the occupation of Iraq, bring the troops home NOW, and redirect the funds for war and war profiteering to human needs in Iraq and home.
Of, course, I'm calling this my "phat" chance request.

Also, yesterday I called Pellosi's office to say much the same thing. But I added that the Democrats in WashDC must stop appeasing the usurper in the White House. Please, make the San Diego activists proud.

Today, I called the Speaker's office again. This time with regards to the Libbey verdict. I said that since Mr. Fitzgerald has announced there will be no more charges filed unless new evidence comes to light. Therefore, I urge the Speaker to allow impeachment hearings to proceed, with a view to helping Mr. Fitzgerald.

As usual, the reply was that my thoughts would be conveyed to the Speaker.
  • J Pierce
I called the switchboard and asked for Rep. Pelosi's office. I was put on hold; after five minutes on hold, I hung up. The Republicnas and their Democrat "friends across the aisle" deserve every bad thing that's coming to them, but I don't. You don't. Our children don't.
  • Jo Beall
I called Sen Dole & Rep Walter Jones asking that if an amendment to withdraw the troops is added to the supplemental, vote for it. Otherwise, no supplemental. With Walter Jones, I spent more time as I am in contact frequently & he's much more workable. Then, I called Rep Slaughter's office about the amendment to the supplemental & was told that would be decided tomorrow.
  • Anne del Prado
After reading the answer Sen. Kennedy gave (needing the money to keep the troops safe), I called his office also. First thanked him for all the times he put himself on the line to save us from (or diminish) harm, that although I was no longer his constituent I wanted to contact him about keeping our troops safe. I told him that there was enough money to bring them home safely, that voting for more money would endanger them more, that he could check with Congr. Kucinich about safe withdrawal from Iraq. Aide's response at the end of a long conversation: "that's cool", in an excited tone of voice. .
  • Alan
I called, left a message for Senator Casey. When I called back for my other reps, there was a TERRIBLE connection. SOmething must be wrong with the tie-line. Hopefully it can be repaired in time to get more calls through.
  • SHARON COLLINS
I called Sen Klobuchar in regard to funding for Iraq War..."I believe most Iraqis want US troops to go home..I believe Congress has a duty to cut war funding - I want Sen K to vote Against $93,000,000,000 additional funds."
    Message listened to -
  • Nancy Hayward
I called my Representative and my Senators today; since I am from South Carolina I didn't expect to make much of an impact. The staff who took my messages were polite, as always. At Senator Graham's office, one leaves a message re: legislative issues.
  • jannice ellen
I called congress today at the toll free number with results my first try. the young man who took my information was polite and asked for all my information when i was finished stating my beliefs. thank you for making this system work so well. i support all your magnificent efforts. please continue to make possible for all to participate.
  • M. Lang
My Rep. John Mica's office (R-FL) was very attentive to my position that diplomacy works (the Cold War ended through diplomacy and nuclear weapons weren't used), that we've tried war for 4 years, and experts are in agreement that billions of dollars later and thousands of lives lost and crippled have yeilded more terrorists, not less; that Iraq is in the midst of a civil war and it's time to cut the funding and get them home - where the money's better spent on Walter Reed Hospital, etc. The staffer requested my name and address,so I felt taken seriously.
Both Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Mel Martinez (R-FL)staffers were busier and assured me that they'd pass my my views along.
  • Anne del Prado
Left messages for Sen.'s Hutchison and Cornyn (TX) that the people in TX want the troops home by Easter, that we want the Sen. to vote against the supplemental funding and use the mo ey in the pipeline to bring them home safely; that we have not done any good in Iraq (went on about DU, our role in civil war, etc.). Cornyn's aid asked a question (after I mentioned that this planet might not be habitable for a long time, if ever, if we did not stop the war soon), both listened politely and promised to transmit the message.
My message for Speaker Pelosi was that the Democrats' state chairs, county chairs, precinct chairs and innumerable activists all over the country had worked very hard to get the people to vote so that a Democrat majority could get our troops out of Iraq and allow that country to heal. That as the leader of the Democrats we expect her to bring the troops home now. We know they can do it, if they don't do it, we will know that they DON'T want to do it and we know after what we did in 2006 that we can transfer our energies to a third party.
  • Charles Lingenfelser
I called Charles Pickering's office and Nancy Pelosi's office to express my opinion about the amendment. I was put right through to their respective offices but, I really believe that my message will not be heard. The phone was answered by one of their assistants and they couldn't have been less interested. Neither one wanted any personal information from me and they blithely promised to pass my opinion on to the representative. I've been writing to Nancy Pelosi, since the November election, about impeaching Bush/Cheney, and I feel my messages have been falling on deaf ears. I hope this amendment works but, I won't be holding my breath. Bush appears to be able to dominate this Congress as much as he did the previous one.
  • Cheri Dzubak
I called NJ Rep. Chris Smith, a Republican. The aide just took the info. down, but Smith has supported Bush in the past in regards to Iraq so I don't expect any amount of phone calls to his office from his constituents will change his mind.
  • Joan Holt
I called my Representative, Bill Delahunt, and left a message saying I hope he'll vote against any further appropriation of funds for the war other than to bring the troops home. Left my name and address and asked for a response.
  • M. Madison
I contacted my Representative Jane Harman, Senator Boxer and Sen. Feinstein's ofc. this a.m. Gave message to staffer - they will pass it on.

Sen. Feinstein will mail a response to me.
  • Rev. Pamala Thomas
I called Rep. Henry Waxman's office (CA-30), identified myself as a constitutent. Talked to an intern, told her that I would like Waxman to stop funding the war and to stop the escalation of troops to Iraq. She said she appreciated the input and would pass the message along to Rep. Waxman.
  • L.J. Diehl
I contacted both my senators in WV. Each staff told me that they would let the senator know my views--stop funding the war and bring the troops home. But when I contacted my house member, the staff person that answered (as usual) relayed his views to me. She said that he did not support the escalation, and will not support the supplemental. I commented that the nearly all of the decisions by this administration related to Iraq since the invasion have been a disaster, and that congress should perhaps be learning something after six yeare. She told me he agreed. I told her to give him my deepest thanks.
  • Carl Tichler
I just spoke with my representative's office (John Hall NY-19), spoke with a staffer. The response was "I will be glad to pass that along".
  • BOB GELL
Talked to aide in Wayne Gilcrest's (R-MD)office. Thanked him for voting for the "no surge" resolution and urged him not to support the continued was.
  • Sylvia Haven
I called the following offices and was surprised to get a live operator each time. Each one listened and seemed to note my request to vote FOR the funded withdrawal amendment and AGAINST the Iraq supplemental if the amendment should fail. The most animated and positive sounding response was from Rep. Slaughter's office.
    Louise Slaughter (NY)
    Nancy Pelosi (speaker)

I called Kennedy, Kerry, Markey, Slaughter and Pelosi, and I think I got four interns. Sounded like good folks, I was once an intern-to-staffer I mentioned, and told them to get their friends on the staff to keep talking about stopping the war. I asked them what they wanted, why they were working on the Hill, and to find the opportunities to talk to their coworkers and their Bosses to communicate the need to quickly end the war - and make it a priority among all the random issues that sail by in a day.
Even if you call a non-sympathetic office, you can have a conversation about public service and why a staffer/intern is there, how they took that Hill job in order to help make the world a better place, to ensure accountability in government, to instill responsibility in their society. All these "conservative" values hold open the door to seeing that a fast withdrawal from this war is the right thing to do.
  • Tom Opacki
I contacted both of my Michigan senator's offices and asked that the staff member pass on my request that the respective senators would vote NO for additional Iraq war funding, unless there was a definite provision or timetable, for troop withdrawal.

I gave my name and location to both staff members and both told me they would see to it that my message was relayed to the senator's.

My call was treated courteously as it usually is when I make calls to these offices.
  • Savina - Mississippi
Called Rep. Slaughter's office, left the message urging her to bring the "fully funded withdrawal with timetable" amendment to the floor for a vote; was politely asked where I was calling from - leaving me to question whether calls from outside the representative's district "count".
  • Savina - Mississippi
I called Rep. Chip Pickering's office, left the message urging him to vote for the "fully funded withdrawal with timetable" amendment. Will try to follow action and call again to urge him to vote no if the supplemental bill comes to the floor without the amendment.
  • Joe Niski
called Blumenauer's office, they were very supportive of using appropriations to get us out, not more deeply in.
  • Neal- Hudson Valley Progressiv
Called office of Rep. John Hall (D-NY 19th CD), spoke to Brian. Requested that my rep. vote "no" on the supplemental spending bill when it reaches the floor, that Congress must use the power of the purse to end the war.
  • Raymond Ruggles
I called and was told that Feinstein was busy and Boxer was closed for the day
  • Kris Loken
I called Senators Byrd and Rockefeller from West Virginia and our Representative, Shelley Moore Capito. All were very polite -- took my "comment", promised to pass it along, and asked for my name and address. I'll be calling everyday till the 13th.
  • I contacted Ellen Tauscher (CA), Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Louise Slaughter (NY). Slaughter's office asked where I heard about the amendment because she was getting a lot of calls. I proudly stated Progressive Democrats of America.
  • Sandra Xenakis
I called Rep. Tim Walberg's office and the aide took my name and address, checked the spelling on my name, and wrote down my request for a "fully funded withdrawal with timetable" amendment to the Iraq supplemental appropriation. I also asked that if no such amendment is adopted, that Rep. Walberg vote NO on the supplemental. She said she'd be sure to pass on the information. Tim Walberg is a brand new representative (Michigan), ultra conservative, and needs to know there are many people in his district who want an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
  • I called both my senators, Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein, and my represenative Diane Watson to express my thanks for their leadership on this issue and to ask that they continue to lead by persuading the rest of Congress to stand on no more funding for this Iraq war -- to vote no on the supplemental appropriations request if it meant more funding. The 888 number was excellent -- very quick. It took only a few minutes to call all three. The messages will be relayed to the Senators and Representative.
  • Daryl in NY
Spoke with staffers for Sen. Schumer and Rep. McCarthy. Took my name and message. Tried Sen. Clinton's office three times, but the lines were all busy. I'll try again later.
  • Jane Franklin
I left messages with Pascrell (House) and both Menendez and Lautenberg (Senate). The aides for Pascrell and Mendendez were perhaps supportive. The aide for Lautenberg was not so friendly but I think he was very busy. He and the aide for Menendez said they are getting lots of calls about this. I didn't ask the Pascrell aide if that office is getting a lot of calls.

I suggested to all that the position should be: No money for the OCCUPATION of Iraq (I think we should stop referring to it as a "war"). Any money should be spent on bringing the troops home immediately and LOOKING AFTER THEM ONCE THEY ARE HOME, which is not happening now as everybody now knows following the scandal at Walter Reed and other so-called medical facilities around the country.
  • Bill in MI
Representative John Dingell's office took my name and address and said they would pass message along. I called 1-888-851-1879, asked for his office, and was patched through in seconds.
  • Marian Grebanier`
Spoke with Blumenauer's aide who didn't know much about the proposed amendment. Blumenauer is against the war and has introduced his own plan of withdrawal. However, I made it clear that I wanted no more funding unless it is to get the troops out quickly. The aide was friendly and talked about Blumenauer's bill and thanked me for my concern..
  • Called Rep. Kind and Sen. Kohl. Both are wishy-washy. In the strongest terms I told aides we want them to stand up for strong legislation to defund further occupation and war-making in Iraq. Kind has said he supports Murtha's plan. I told aide that Kind should insist Murtha's plan not be watered down. Kohl has been weak on this issue. I told aide now is the time for him to start acting like a Senator and not a spectator.
  • Thomas Milcarek
Just an added... note I called speaker Pelosi and Majority leader Hoyer with the message "no vote without the amendment to fully fund and timetable the withdrawal...both courtelously took the message and implied it would be forwarded...
  • faith white
I called Senator Ken Salazar, Senator Wayne Allard and Representitive Mark Udall. I said I was outraged at bushes budget to neglect the Vets. That there should be no more funding for the war. That spending any more money to line the pockets of the war profitters is an outrage. I said, we need all the money to take proper care of our vets. No more spending on war!
  • Thomas Milcarek
I called Congressman Farr's office and my comment was copied down along with my name and address. I requested as was suggested that the supplemantal be voted against without the fully funded and timetabled withdrawal amendment. Will call Pelosi also with same message.
  • Pam Harms
I called Rep. Tom Davis III's office. Because he had just sent me a letter explaining his position not to support the surge, I was able to refer to many of the points in his letter, which followed PDA points closely, when I spoke to his aide.
  • Harriet H.
I just left the message with Jim Moran's office as well as Nancy Pelosi, and Louise Slaughter.
  • Dianne Eckstein
I called both Senator Smith and Congresswoman Darlene Hooley's offices, and I got the same answer from both. They will "pass on my comments." Nothing new or exciting in that. Keep calling! Keep the pressure on!!
  • mary lasley
got "live people" at Walden (Rep - OR) and Wyden (Sen - OR) - seemed responsive; left recorded message at Smith (sen - OR)
  • I phoned, Feinstein, Boxer, Farr (California all). Everyone was polite and took my messages.

There is no (or little) news coverage of this or so many other actions. It seems like these these folks are "bought and paid for."

Perhaps only way out of this war is to have a General Strike as done in Europe and South America. Too many folks are unwilling to stand up in this way. Furthermore, too many "new" Americans have come from countries where governments like ours are the norm....and think "this is how it is, I'll just continue about my business."

I am deeply saddened for our children and our children's children throughout the world.
  • Richard Punko
I called the offices of Congressman Albi Sires. D- 13CD NJ, Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Hoyer. I talked to their staffers and asked them to bring the amendment to the floor that would fully fund a withdrawal if it had a definite time line for the withdrawal of all US Troops From Iraq.

The staffers all were polite and professional and promised to pass my comments on to their respective representitives. I also told them that thje war was a mistake and that they should have the courage to cut funding regardless od the rightwing blow back and name calling that may result for a cut off vote.

    Richard Punko
  • bruce
talked to bruno in rep frank's (d-ma) office who sd franks was opposed to the war?! and wanted the troups home yesterday ... and supported the amendment. spoke to slaughter's office who said the amendment was being drafted to be brought to the floor.
  • Bob Jordan
    Tuesday 8:30 AM

After being on hold for California Sen. Boxer's office for 10+ minutes (the Mozart was pleasant!) the line went dead.

So, I called the local # for CA Congressman Mike Thompson's office, and had a good conversation with his rep there in Napa.

She said she would pass my comments against the supplemental appropriation that would prolong/support ongoing troop presence in Iraq, but said there may be something being offered by Rep. Murtha regarding the appropriation bll that would make the anti-military position consistent with a Yes vote, not a No vote. We should be aware of this and be careful in commenting against the prolonged war rather than a yes or no on a specific bill!

    Bob Jordan
  • Barbara Quissell
I called my representative Tom Tancredo and talked to a very nice man in his office--not that it will do any good. I also spoke with a polite woman in Senator Allard's office. Ken Salazar has a message machine on which I left our talking points. I left names and our address as I was calling on behalf of my husband and myself.
  • Laura Fucci
I spoke with the aides in Rep. DeLauro, Rep. Slaughter and Speaker Pelosi's offices re the fully-funded withdrawal with timetable amendment to the Iraq supplemental. I asked where each stood on the matter. None of the aides could/would say, however, Rep. DeLauro's said she is a co-sponsor a bill similar to the Kennedy bill re not funding the troop "surge". Speaker Pelosi's aide said she couldn't speak to the matter specifically, but there would be something coming out in the news soon and she has received many calls about this today. I hope this helps.
  • Lois Wakefield
Spoke with staffers at Rep. Mark Udall's and Sen. Wayne Allard's offices, both of whom will pass along my message to end the funding.
  • Phil Schoggen
I talked with a woman in Rep. Jim Cooper's office and she said to leave my comment with her so I did. I asked him to support the fully funded phased withdrawal but to vote no on the fundinif that isn't passed. She said she would pass that word on the the Representative then she took my name and address. Hope this helps.
  • Tusi
I called Sen. Kerry, Sen. Kennedy, and Congressman Neal's offices. I told each aide I spoke with that if the congressperson did not vote against further funding for the war, I would not vote for them in the future. I spoke with the aide at Kennedy's office and she said, "Well, Senator Kennedy has always been against the war, but we need to protect the troops." That's the excuse they're giving for voting for another huge amount of $ to go to private U.S. companies making money in Iraq. Grrrr!
  • Barbara Moe
I called the number given for today's (March 6) call-in. I was connected to Senator Allard's office. I said I wanted NO MORE WAR FUNDING! The person who answered was polite and said he would give Senator Allard the message.
  • Robin Van Liew
Rep. McGovern (MA) is in the forefront ofthe anti-war movement. Staffers took my name and address. Sen. Kerry's aide didn't ask for my name or address but took my comments. SEn. Kennedy's line is busy I will keep trying. Robin Van Liew, Holden MA
  • james tardy
this is the easiest thing in the world, I got straight through to my senator's office.
of course, being that I am from Alabama, his lines were probably not very busy wiht war protesters

    PEACE!

  • I called Marilyn Musgrave's office and left the message w/her office aide. Being lock-step w/Bush & Co. I don't expect any change of heart/voting from Ms. Musgrave.

Thanks for organizing this action! It's important to speak truth to power whether they listen or not...
  • i spoke with my FL Rep.Tim Mahoney’s staff @ 9:26AM March 6th. He was polite and agreed
to pass on my concern. He was well informed on the issue…i then called Louise Slaughter (NY), Chair, Rules Committee and her staffers were also up to speed on the issue.
  • Sheila Evans
I called my Congressman Tom Allen and spoke to an aide who took my contact info and agreed to relay the information; interestingly the Switchboard person sent me first to Congressman Abercrombie so I used the mistake to send the same message.
I also called Congresswoman Slaughter and the aide also said he would convey the message.

Just think how powerful it would be if all of us did this simple three minute exercise...thanks PDA for helping with the process.
  • T Gregory
I called Sens Salazar & Allard, Congr Tancredo - Colorado, left messages with all. One was voicemail, others said they would pass along.
  • Ray Hardin
Called Sens. Kennedy and Kerry; staffers took my comments - said they'd pass them on. Called Rep. Capuano and got a recorded message. I left my comments and didn't ask for a reply.
  • Steve Gross
I spoke to Rep. Olver's office who confirmed his support of the timed withdrawal amendment. Senators Kerry and Kennedy offices indicated that they would pass on my request but did not indicate how the Senators would vote.
  • reverend ralph john monteiro,
i phone house speaker nancy pelosi's office and left word of my support for the possible amendment to fund the withdrawal within a set time table and if that failed to vote NO to bush's supplement... the person answering said he would take that information and pass it along... tuesday, 9:05 am
  • Joanne Cabry
I spoke with a person in Congressman Castle's office. He's the Republican Congressman from Delaware who sometimes votes with the good guys. She asked me to repeat my message twice, so she was writing it down. I also asked her to tell Congressman Castle that nine American soldiers were killed in one blast in Iraq last night.
  • Lyn Henri
    I got a recorded message.
  • judy
I called my senators, Patty Murray's office along with Maria Cantwell's office and spoke to their assistance. They were very cordial and I told them as Democrates they better quickly understand they both were voted back in to STOP THIS ILLEGAL WAR. Democrates who represent us on capitol hill cannot vote for a NONBINDING RESOLUTION for NO TROOP SURGE AND SUBSEQUENTLY vo VOTE FOR THE INCREASE IN FUNDING THE SURGE. I believe having one foot on one side and the other foot on the other side of the fence looks as if the democrates are republicans in democratic sheeps clothing. Only fund the necessary funds to expediate the removal of all our troops out of Iraq and Afaganistan(spelling). Additionally, I said Nancy Pelosi must realize that her statement "We will continue to finance our troops to keep them out of harms way." Please, Nancy do you actually believe the american people are so gulliable to believe that be voting additional funding WILL KEEP OUR TROOPS OUT OF HARMS WAY. PLEASSSSSE. THIS THEORY SOUNDS ABSURD. The only way our troops will be safe is to get them out of the civil war. The representatives for both senators told me they would have both senators email me as to how they would vote. I also mentioned if the democrates voted in office will not stand up and get a spine in regards to this issue we will lose in 2008. I will never vote democratic again....
  • R. McNabb
Left voice mail for Senators mccain, kyl and Representative flake to stop funding this war, SAVE THE TROOPS-BRING THEM HOME NOW! Spend the funds here. Also, I told them I am an X-republican and did not vote for any republican last election and from now on!

WE SHOULD BE TRYING TO STOP WAR IN IRAN.

Having watched carefully for years, I think Bush is unstoppable in Iraq.

    FOCUS ON IRAN!

  • Jim Easton
I was transferred to Senator barbara Boxer's office & received a recording saying the office was closed with a statement of office hours 9I called during "office hours.") No message could be left.
  • Sarah Backus
I phoned my Congressman Elton Gallegly's office in Washington. The aide told me she was NOT allowed to say the congressman's position on the war. He could send me a letter to explain. I told her not to, that it was a waste of a natural resource, a tree, when she could tell me herself during our phone conversation. She suggested I go to his website for the answer.

I told her I was calling for ALL 17 of my family members and that we were ALL against the war in Iraq. We did NOT want him to support sending more troops or more money to Iraq.

She told me she would list all 17 of us as against the war. I told her I was prepared to give all the names and addresses of each person but she didn't want to work that hard and just took my word for it.

My experience with Congressman Gallegly is that he always follows the president and would jump over a cliff if ordered to do so! He's so weak. He tried to retire just before the last election and two days later he was running again cuz the repubs got to him! We were all so disappointed.

My son took a petition he made up against the war to middle school last week and got over 200 kids to sign it during lunch! We've sent that to Congressman Gallegly and a copy to the White House.
  • Can we organize a Global Day of Prayer-Meditation for PEACE?
    We need Understanding, Dialogue, Compassion.
It is truly sad that what are arguably the two most powerful (really forceful) men on earth with their greed and dark hearts have been allowed to create so much hatred, killing and loss. Can they be any different than the Terrorists?
We must not allow them to continue. There is one way to disarm them and that is with love.
It is a far more powerful tool.
    Respectfully, Robyn Angle
  • margaretta swigert
I called harry reid and senator dick durban (I'm in chicago). i will also call obama. i told their office staff that i requested that the congressman vote no for the supplemental. the staffers both said they conveyed my view to the congressman. I also noted that I, like Cindy Sheehan, am a military mom. My son is in the army and has been to iraq twice. i respect his choice of staying in the military and pray for him and all our troops everyday. but i also pray for the iraqi people and know they deserve their freedom from US occupation. thanks for continuing the peace movement and taking a leadership role. your roles are important and i fully support you. margaretta
  • Thanks for organizing this. I have been opposed to this (and any war) from before it started.
Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss, there can be no greater saddness. We are blessed to still have our son with us after a long battle with leukemia. Living in the fear of loosing him affirmed how precious our children are and that no war was worth their life! Too bad some of the money we have wasted on this war could not have been used for positive things like cureing cancer, stem cell research, education, feeding the hungry etc.

I left my message with Tim Walberg's aid (R) I doubt that he will listen. I said that God does not want us in this war or any other war. He wants us to love each other. The response was neutral and they said they would give him the message.

Whether we believe in God or not, what's in a name? We know war and killing are wrong. It's too bad using the name God instantly send us a message that it's the Christian Right (which usually means wrong.)
I will call back and ask to get connected directly with Levin, Stabnow, & Dingel.
    Respectfully, RObyn Angle
  • I called Rep. Matsui's [CA-5] office. The person that answered said she did NOT think that Matsui was going to vote against the supplemental. This was expected, but I'm still going to call each day and let her know that I want her to vote against it.
  • barbara walling
i called sen sanders office and the therespose was friendly as was the response from rep welch and sen. leahy
  • carol olivier
left messages at both wa. senators offices to block any more funding and get us out - politely received -
  • Kimberly Clark
I call Rep. Granger and Burgess. Both Senate lines were busy. The aides simply said they would pass on the info to the congressman/woman.
  • Dan Dick
The staffer who answered my Congressman Ed Markey's phone agreed, saying, "That's definitely the sentiment around here."
  • I just sent the following email (I'll follow up with a call shortly) to my Representative 'we-must-support-the-troops' Emanuel Cleaver, after receiving his email about what bills are being considered this week in the House...I won't copy it all here but, suffice to say, renaming post offices, museums and federal buildings doesn't fit with my priorities now. We pay these people. They work for us. It's time we remind them of that, and that they "derive their just powers from the consent of the governed," an apparently forgotten concept ...

    Subject: Priorities
I'm wondering about Congressional priorities, having just read your EC Insider for the coming week.

Given that at least 700,000 people have died and God only knows how many more permanently disabled and destroyed, X00 billion dollars spent on the military, and our nation coming apart, I wonder when you might stop renaming post offices and instead address the war, impeachment of the criminals in office, the fact that US children just took last place in the UNICEF review of global children's welfare in "developed" nations, or any of the other important issues that currently need to be immediately addressed?

You 'rule' at the consent of the governed, per our Declaration of Independence. Please be advised you do not have my consent to authorize the $93 billion in Bush's latest request for supplemental war funding, and that you do have my consent to authorize $0 funding for a continued war but whatever funding is required to immediately redeploy our troops out of Iraq, assuming that authorization is accompanied by very specific wording as to how it will be spent and how that spending will be overseen, and by whom. Furthermore you do not have my consent to cut VA funding, as requested, but have my consent to drastically increase VA funding immediately.

    Thank you,
    Janice Matthews
  • Dave Arazmo
I asked "Where do I voice my opinion against appropriating more funds for the war"?
The woman who answered told me with my senator's office.
  • Susan Kipping
I called Senators Boxer and Feinstein and Congress members Eshoo and Pelosi.
Message: No more money for the war on Iraq, end the war immediately, leave no bases or anything behind, we have destroyed Iraq and Bush needs to be held accountable.
  • Ashley
Called Fred Upton's office and an aide said they would pass the request along...took my name, no other info...but I've called so often I think I'm on a list and the name is enough!
  • Helen Cochems
I called the switchboard, and was connected to Senator Feinstein's office. The aide thanksed me and took my zip code. I asked her to connect me to Senator Boxer's office, and she did. An aide there said he'd pass the sentiment on, but didn't bother asking for my zip code. I told him anyway.

I called Monday about 9:45 am, and there were no busy signals at either office. But, it's good to know that you can reach both Senators with one phone call, if you get through.
  • Sandy
I called Rep. Perlmutter's office and spoke to Jose. He said "perfect" and that he would pass it on. No that Bob "both ways" Beauprez is gone, I do not worry about Rep. Perlmutter. He will do what is right.
  • Diane Morris
I called Campbell, Feinstein, Boxer, Obama, Feingold, Kennedy, Reid, and Pelosi. Everyone was polite and said...as usual... they would "pass along my comments".

I also pointed them to Glenn Greenwald's excellent piece in Salon:
    http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/03/...

Confrontational investigations, subpoenas, and hearings are the priority...Where he says:

..."televised, highly publicized confrontations over the administration's hubris and arrogance and utter contempt for our legal institutions and political traditions is not something to be avoided."
  • Jon A. McWilliams
I called Senator Smith's office (OR) in DC and got a fax machine, the same happened at his Portland office but through a second # I talked with a receptionist who took my contact information and my message of "No on the Supplemental Appropriations Bill. She told me she would pass my comments on to Senator Smith. Has he really changed?!
  • Susan Rush
Hello, you are carrying my e-mail address as levisrush@comcast.net Would you mind changing it to rushbunny@comcast.net ?

    Thank you very much.
  • Clayton Haven
Hi, I reached Feinstein's office and left a "no funding" request with an assistant who will pass on my request. I couldn't reach Boxer's office (line busy). I left a message on Davis' phone.
  • Melissa Baird
I faxed the message to my 2 senators and congressman (Florida) as well as Reid, Pelosi and Obama. I will wait a couple of days and call with the same message.
  • thanks linda

the good news is the lines are busy non-stop ..you can also call the capital switch board at 202-224-3121 - keep calling!
  • I left a message for Rep. Yarmuth (D-KY). I knew that he was not on the Appropriations Committee and is on the inspection tour of Walter Reed hospital today. But I urged him to vote against the entire $93 billion supplemental package, no conditions. I pointed out that the best thing we could do was insure no more soldiers are killed or maimed and that there is enough in the budget pipeline to bring the troops home.

Since Rep. Yarmuth is not on the Appropriations Committee, I am going to email Rep. Murtha and Speaker Pelosi and urge the same things, reminding them that they were not elected to enable Bush's addiction to war.
  • linda selvia
I left a messave for Rep. Steve Chabot. The aide took my name and address and said she would pass the message on to him. Since Chabot is Republican and always votes with them, I don't expect
to change his mind but he needs to know that not everyone in his district supports the war.

I was not able to get through with the toll free number left on the site, so I tried a different one. It is 800-828-0498.
