<description>Scott, Cegelis or Duckworth? Who is the strongest candidate?
With the probable entry of Duckworth into the race, the ability to win against Roskam becomes the crucial issue. Cegelis received her 44% against Hyde, but Kerry did better than she did with 47%. It is doubtful that Cegelis can expand the base very much and will have to compete with Roskam&#039;s money. Duckworth has the backing of the national apparatus but she is being actively opposed by many of the local Democrat leaders. Scott has earned the respect (and backing) of many of the local Democratic leaders. He has more than enough signatures and he has the best chance to expand the Democratis vote and win against Roskam. His 16 years of living in Mexico will help him energize the Hispanic vote. He can draw many religious moderates away from Roskam. Scott&#039;s early and consistent opposition to the war (see his book) fits in much better than Duckworth with the current mood of the country. If Cegelis was so strong why has she burned so much money in the early months of the primary against Scott? Maybe she also agrees that he is the strongest candidate.
