January 7 National Day of Town Hall Forums on Ending the War

Submitted by kspidel on 11-29-2005 – 11:57 amComments

We are joining with Backbone Campaign , Progressive Democrats of America , After Downing Street , Democracy Cell Project , Cities for Peace , MilitaryFreeZone.Org , Operation Ceasefire , United for Peace and Justice , U.S. Tour of Duty , Hip Hop Caucus , Democracy Rising , World Can’t Wait , and Gold Star Families for Peace in asking you to help organize public meetings or smaller gatherings on Saturday, January 7, on the topic of ending the war. The war is costing us dearly in lives, in security, and in resources. We need this national day to make our demand heard and bring the war to an end. (Events can also be held on days other than the 7th, to fit the schedules of those involved.) Because the holidays are coming, the time to organize these events is now.

Here’s how:

STEP 1: Identify an individual or organization or coalition to take the lead in organizing an event.

STEP 2: Post the event at http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/event so that people can sign up for it and other organizers can contact you and work together. Whoever posts the event will have control of and be able to communicate with the list of people who sign up to attend it. It is also possible to post an event without many details and fill them in later.

STEP 3: See the resources posted on that website, which include tips on contacting your Congress Member. Invite him or her to host the event or to be your guest at an event you host, whichever they and you prefer. You can also hold an event without a Congress Member, such as a panel, a discussion circle, or a house party, and it’s easy to do so with the resources provided here: http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/event

STEP 4: Join a conference call for grassroots activists around the country on December 7 at 11 a.m. ET at 1-218-936-6666, then hit 2 (as instructed). The access code is 295965.

Boxer Asks Presidential Scholars About Former White House Counsel's Statement that Bush Admitted to an 'Impeachable Offense'

    December 19, 2005

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today asked four presidential scholars for their opinion on former White House Counsel John Dean's statement that President Bush admitted to an "impeachable offense" when he said he authorized the National Security Agency to spy on Americans without getting a warrant from a judge.
Boxer said, "I take very seriously Mr. Dean's comments, as I view him to be an expert on Presidential abuse of power. I am expecting a full airing of this matter by the Senate in the very near future."

    Boxer's letter is as follows:

On December 16, along with the rest of America, I learned that President Bush authorized the National Security Agency to spy on Americans without getting a warrant from a judge. President Bush underscored his support for this action in his press conference today.
On Sunday, December 18, former White House Counsel John Dean and I participated in a public discussion that covered many issues, including this surveillance. Mr. Dean, who was President Nixon's counsel at the time of Watergate, said that President Bush is "the first President to admit to an impeachable offense." Today, Mr. Dean confirmed his statement.
This startling assertion by Mr. Dean is especially poignant because he experienced first hand the executive abuse of power and a presidential scandal arising from the surveillance of American citizens.
Given your constitutional expertise, particularly in the area of presidential impeachment, I am writing to ask for your comments and thoughts on Mr. Dean's statement.
Unchecked surveillance of American citizens is troubling to both me and many of my constituents. I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter as soon as possible.

    Sincerely,

    Barbara Boxer
    United States Senator

Thank you for initiating this stand for freedom.

American patriotism began as a stand against tyranny and it is time for American patriots to answer the call again. Are we going to be a country that represents the interests of the entitled few or we going to be a country that represents the interests of ALL AMERICANS?

It's time that we put the "WE" back in "WE THE PEOPLE" !!

Thank you for your courage and being a voice and a "stand" for the millions of us who are fed up with this criminal administration. They should have been impeached long ago, god knows they have committment enough crimes and continue to do so each day. It's time we start talking, loud and lounder, about the REAL purpose and agenda of this war, OIL & Mid-East DOMINATION of resources and politics! Democracy!!!!???.......translation = American Imperialism! And continuing to support the myth of "heroism" every time one of our solders is killed for "our" so called freedoms! What a travesty, all we are doing with this "patriotic mythology" is perpetuating war and giving the corporate war mongers the "cannon foder" to fight their territorial greedy acquisitions!

In a meeting in my senators office this past spring we were told by a member in the discussion that justice is prevailing in this country. I found that a cruel joke as my son-in-law returned from Iraq, my house was under eminent domain, and recruiters constantly called on my children. In the meantime I imagined the horrors of Iraqi's on a daily basis. Where was the justice and who were the benefactors? Yes I believe resisting the war has lost me employment, my internet server wants to cancel me (maybe due to a letter I submitted on peace published in Aljazeera this past year)and somehow I am at peace with my conscience. I gave support to conscientious objectors and to military members doing a great service for our country. I give no support for the embarassment brought to our country by the mandates of the CPA, and the representation that has taken us down a long hard road of immorality.

  • I find the whole affair and activities in violation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to our most beloved respected, honored document that governs our American frame work, has been and continues to be ignored, by people that took an oath of Office to serve us the American people not a dysfuctional hidden political party aims or agendas. Gravely, discussing and tyranny of Big Brother watching and allowing this Orwellian, double-speaking to us, as the Congress is left in the dark about the real goals of this neoconservative agenda to change how we think and behave, sinful.

Bush and Cheney are the absolute worst "leaders" in American history. They have led the country straight to hell--and it isn't much further away.

It's a shame what's going on. We are the most hated nation in the world. We are headed toward the dumps. Our President and Vice President simply doesn't get respect when they visit foreign lands. Can't say enough terrible things about them. They have most extremeists religious following and supporting them. They do not believe in the seperation of state and religion. They want us to become a religious government.
  • The band of hazardous waste spreaders now exercising Illegitimate power in Washington are doomed. The plans to exterminate the human race with nuclear weapons is now becoming known to a larger audience, the intended victims of the plot, which is the human race.

The decision to exterminate humanity was made in April of 1947. Since that time there have been repeateded attempts to launch a triggering device upon us, which is the basic reason why the presence of Extraterrestrials is still classified "Above top Secret."

The President and the Vice-President have committed enough high crimes and misdemeanors to get them impeached and convicted a dozen times over. I would like to have a role in making such impeachment a reality. I therefore offer my services to whomever is in a position to use those services for that purpose.

I am a retired lawyer and have written a book which contains a chapter dealing with the treasonous betrayal of the American people, the nation, and its constitution by Bushes, extending back three generations to George Henry Walker, the great-grandfather of the present incumbent.

I believe I can contribute, in some measure, to the noble effort to get rid of these people before they do any more damage to our country. I have a pretty firm grip om the historical perspective as well as the legal issues involved but, if nobody can use me for any other purpose, I will be happy to hang around and clean the office toilet when such is needed, or do anything at all that will get this administration out of office as soon as possible.
