PDA Working with WakeUpWalMart

Submitted by kspidel on 10-31-2005 – 4:32 pmComments

This last month, Republican Congressman, and former Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tom DeLay was arrested and booked on state conspiracy and money-laundering charges.

As if corruption at the highest level of our government isn’t bad enough, it turns out Wal-Mart actually gave Tom Delay money 2 days after he was indicted. That’s right. Wal-Mart made a $5,000 contribution to support Tom Delay’s corruption 2 days after his indictment.

For a long time, we have known Wal-Mart’s policies are morally corrupt, but now we know Wal-Mart’s politics are politically corrupt too. But, this time, we are going to do something about it. Wal-Mart should ask Tom Delay for its contribution to be returned immediately.

Sign the online petition calling on Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott to insist Tom Delay return Wal-Mart’s politically corrupt contribution today.

http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/feature/delay/

Wal-Mart has recently become a key player in “pay-to-play” politics.
Wal-Mart’s corporate PAC donated more than $2.7 million to federal and state candidates in 2004, with nearly 80% of Wal-Mart’s campaign contributions going to Republican candidates.

Wal-Mart’s radical right wing agenda hurts America. Only a corrupt, right-wing politician like Tom Delay could support Wal-Mart’s political agenda of poverty-level wages, poor health care, weaker child labor protections and an acceleration of shipping good-paying U.S. jobs overseas.

Don’t let Wal-Mart’s morally corrupt political agenda corrupt our Congress. Tell Wal-Mart to stop supporting corrupt politicians like Tom Delay today.

http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/feature/delay/

Our country deserves better than morally corrupt companies like Wal-Mart supporting politically corrupt politicians like Tom Delay.

You have already changed this company in so many ways, and now we need your help again. Wal-Mart should not be adding to our corruption in America by supporting indicted politicians who are being investigated for money laundering and political corruption.

Thank you for all that you do to help us change Wal-Mart.

this is great! so glad to see PDA working with wake up walmart. looks like this confirms what we've always thought - that walmart works hand and hand with our morally corupt politicans!

The Bush Administration has no understanding or true patriotism in dealing with the challenges and difficulties of most working Americans. They seem to be more interested in providing the ability for their corporate elite associates to obtain as much profit as possible without any moral principles limiting their actions and decions. Wall Mart is just one of hundreds that seem to have great financial influence on the actions and decisions of the Bush Administration. As a Vietnam Combat Veteran with the Marine Corps in 1969 and as a radical (progressive biblical) Christian we need an economic and political change in Washington. Starting with a New Congress in January 2007 and hopefully a new progressive populist Democratic President in 2008.

It is refreshing to find this today. I have boycotted wal-mart for over 18 months now just on my own idea! every time I tell someone that I don't shop at wal-mart, they ask why every time and tell them how it is so bad for America. I've told hundreds and most of them seem to agree! with a good strong and aggressive push we can accomplish more than anyone can imagine.
  • (Ms.) Meryle A. Korn
Before I learned about their policies I shopped at Wal-Mart a few times, but I haven't done so in years. Now I do whatever I can to encourage my friends not to shop there. The small amount of "savings" one gets by shopping at Wal-Mart is more than offset by the unconscionably low wages they pay their employees and their abysmal record with regard to employee health insurance. When one adds up the tax money which subsidizes health care alone, it far outweighs any personal savings from Wal-Mart.

There are many worthy causes for your extra money than corrupt politicans.
  • Bill Bartholomew
Well did you really expect anything different. A real cheesey human being and a real cheesey Department store. All I got to say is you get what you pay for. Personally, I'd like to see both of them out of business for good. They are both bad for the environment, American workers, and American business. Attention Walmart workers you better get organized or the roach buster and the son of Sam will be collecting a little kickback so you can keep your job.

Why does it not surprise me that the world's biggest corporation is getting sweaty palms and bailing out a crook like Tom Delay. I guess that Walmart figures America will just go numb in the head and go on shopping like nothing's wrong. It makes you think who's really running the country.
  • Ron and Patricia Melsha
After reading that Wal-mart is financially supporting Tom Delay, our family has decided
never to shop with you again. Mr. Delay has been repeatedly admonished by the House Ethics
Committee and is now indicted. Additionally, as we have spread the word among many of our
friends, quite a few have decided to do likewise. We are blessed to have a community that
provides many retail choices and we will spend our dollars elsewhere. Mr. Delay is a
shameful figure in politics today and hopefully the justice system will remove him from
    Washington

WALMART AND TOM DELAY, BIRDS OF A FEATHER THAT CONNIVE TOGETHER, ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH IN THE SAME MANNER AS ARE ALL CRIMINALS WHO BELIEVE THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW.
  • Wal-mart is one of the wealthiest corporations in the U.S., you would think that they would provide their workers with a living wage and health care! Yet they continue to fire employees that try to bring the Union in to help their slave laborers. I am a member of SEIU Local #1 and have been signing petitions to help Wal-mart employees receive fair wages along with health care and to stop the flagrant disregard of the women employees that are treated like second class citizens!
  • I especially liked the description of Delay as cheesey. He has a flagrant disregard for anything decent. All about what he and his ilk can get away with, moral or immoral. When anyone skirts that line of legality, time and time again, like Delay has, he/she risks crossing over into the realm of legal vs. illegal. Crimes have been committed here. The citizens of this country are suffering. I had actually never been in a Walmart until two weeks ago. What I saw was apalling: Fat people buying all the transfat they could put their hands on. Lack of dental work was also epidemic. Wallmart destroys towns, people and backs the Delays. But I believe Wallmart will collapse if there is another natural disaster. Its profit margins are very slim. Unfortunately the tax payers will have to pick up the tab for all those abused and used employees. Wake up America. Your lives are on the line. Don't you smell that cheesey odor in the house, the senate, in the shopping centers. Let's take back what's good about this country.
  • Charlie Day
My wife and I quit shopping at Walmart years ago because of their corporate practices, such as denying benefits to their employees and paying miserably low wages. It is not surprising to learn of Walmart's support for a sleaze like DeLay. This only reinforces our resolve never to shop at Walmart again.
  • Lyn Henri
That's a crappy move by our already corrupt 'President", to actually support child labor in the U.S., and also it's crappy that the equally corrupt Tom DeLay is involved in this scheme, too.
Aren't children in the U.S. supposed to be in school instead?
  • Cindy Bayne
I have always hated Wal-mart. You just added fuel to the fire. Thanks for the opportunity to sign the petition
  • Jim Alex
I never shop at Walmart and will encourage as many people as I can to do the same...They ought to be ashamed of themselves...Thanks for the opportunity to speak..
  • William Petry
I never even enter Wal-Mart let alone shop there.
  • p smith
More right wing moral corruption in America
  • P. Karen Price
If WalMart believes that we, as a nation, will not pay attention to the harm that WalMart does so that we can pay less, they will pay dearly. Integrity is that not hard for Americans to buy into.
  • I do wish the walmart here would disappear. This was already a depressed area, walmart caused many other stores to fold; stores that payed better wages and had health plans for their employees besides much better service, products and variety. Now even the 2 other supermarkets pay lower wages with less benefits. May the walmart cheeziness supporting the DeLay sleeziness, in this blue county, help to turn more and more people away from their doors!
  • Waring with Corporate America yeeeeeeehaaaaaaa wtg people keep it going! This is just the tip of one iceberg. They have been raping our country of enviornmental problems, bushing bills through behind and in front of us by paying off the "RIGHT PEOPLE". Warning to Corporate America and the Bush "CLUB OF SLEEZEBALLS" we have had enough and we are putting on the gloves. Hopefully, we won't have to wait until 2008 to put the next President in office who can clean up this mess and get started cleaning house. The Iraq war was simple to understand once I opened my eyes. OIL, OIL, CONTRACTS, OIL, REVENGE. Revenge against Saddam from Bush for how he treated his "daddy", Oil he thought would be rolling in here and he would be famous, and lets not forget the biggest sleezeball of all, Cheney, who obtained illegal and unchalleged bids to rebuild everything we blew up! Keep it up people sign every petition and call every Senator or Congressman you can and just say, INVESTIGATE, IMPEACH, IMPRISSON, give them what they deserve. Don't forget to fine these guys and put the money they've been stealing back in OUR coffers. Can you tell I am fed up? I hope you are too!
  • Todd Somodevilla
    Walmart sucks.
  • Marianne
Support your local businesses or all we will have are Walmarts.
  • Everyone should start going to Kmart, Target, and any other store that competes with Walmart. We should all boycott Walmart. Stop buying there it's that simple. They are trying to take over the world by not paying anyone what they are worth, and not giving them hardly any benefits. Walmart not only SUCKS, it _UCKS us all....

Hi, I think it's time for you,(Walmart) as a company to realize what's fast becoming obvious. Tom Delay (as well as Libby, Rove, Frist, and Cheney) is a thief. Don't support thieves in our govt. You, as a company, have already given Americans enough reasons to be disgusted with you. Hey. News flash.......Bush is the worst president ever, despite the fact that he calls himself a christian, this administration has killed over 2000 soldiers to make themselves wealthy and now we all KNOW IT.....Everyone but the 'American Born Again' knows these things. Try to catch up your ignorance is an embarrassment. Any-one-who-supports-these-criminals-with-cash-must-be-irretrievably -Stupid...............Get that?
  • Bob Walters
Shop CostCo...they pay their employees well and provide benefits. Don't think their employees are registering for Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, etc. Not only should we all refuse to shop at WalMart, we should all be pressuring our state legislatures to change Medicaid eligibility rules to prevent huge low-wage/no benefit employers from foisting their employees' healthcare costs off onto taxpayers (WalMart employees pay taxes, too.) Small businesses (30 or fewer employees) should be exempted from this type of legislation, but we should go after legislators who won't take on this issue, get 'em out of office, replace 'em with progressives who WILL stand up to the WalMarts and represent the rest of us. Should also push for both state and federal legislation to protect workers' rights to organize into unions, to bargain collectively, and to enforce labor agreements. WalMart and the Bug-effer...a truly fitting pair of sleaze-bags.
  • D Justis
It is no surprise that a company that exploits workers and profits at the expense of others would give money to a corrupt and ruthless politician. What better way to buy political capital in order to "continue doing business as usual". I stopped shopping there long ago mainly due to the fact I could no longer tolerate rude obnoxious Americans who do not have the capacity to think.
  • Roger F. Crawford
The incredible arrogance of the Republican party is reflected in the everyday, business as usual of the Wal-Mart Corporation. They pretend to be a friend of the American people when their true agenda is the fleecing of the public and the abuse of the workers that they employ. Many of their employees would be running their own business or working for someone who would treat them fairly but these people were put out of business by the greedy corporate power that they implement through the Republican party. If you are confused about who I am describing, they are one and the same; the Wal-Mart execs and the Bush administration. Their support of Tom Delay is outrageous.
  • Mishcka O'Connor
Well, why does this not surprise me: Walmart in bed with Tom DeLay and company. Let's hope the Democratic party will get their act together and get this gang of thieves out of the white house before they ruin this country.

Wal-Mart just adds to the already rampant misuse of campaign funds. It is a corrupt giant that victimizes all who shop or work there.
