Update on the Andy Stephenson situation

Submitted by kspidel on 5-26-2005 – 4:36 pmComments

Yesterday, Andy went into surgery to remove his tumor. The surgery lasted 7.5 hours, and thankfully all of the tumor was extracted. The doctors also removed half of his pancreas. The tumor itself has been sent to a pathology lab to determine exactly what kind of cancer this was, which means Andy is not out of the woods yet. The cancer could be one of two kinds, and forgive me for not knowing the terms. One kind will mean Andy is looking at good health, and one kind means he will be facing more trouble in the future. We all have our fingers crossed for that pathology report, which should come sometime next week.

Andy has suffered a Stroke. 2 strokes now. Things are not looking real positive.
  • Good luck Andy.

Hey Andy, (my fellow west coaster)

I’m looking out my window right now, at the beautiful Coast Mountains and thinking of you. There’s a popular hike here called the ‘Grind.’ It’s a hellish climb. You walk up under the gondola. It’s damn near vertical.

You think you’re going to die on the way up, but the view at the top is amazing. Stretched out before you are one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the Pacific Ocean. It’s hard to doubt there is a God when you see such a sight.

Andy, you’re almost at the top of the mountain. The hard climbing is done and it’s only a few more steps to the summit. When you reach the top, a vast horizon will stretch out before you. I’m convinced you have much more to accomplish in this world and many more stories to share.

Have courage for the rest of your journey. Don’t ever forget the love that has been poured out on you like healing oil. When you’re tired in mind and body and spirit remember the miracles that have brought you thus far.

    Peace.
  • I don't know Andy Stephenson, but it was awe-inspiring to watch how so many good people came together to help someone who was in need.

As a Christian lately, I have often been ashamed of those who claim to follow the teachings of Christ, and have had a difficult time defending my belief in what Jesus represents to me to my non-believing friends.

It is hard to find people who claim the title, Christian, to point to as an example to be emulated when I look around at those who have appropriated the word, but not the spirit of Christianity.

Andy must be a very special person to have evoked the kind of support I have seen over the past few weeks.

Thank you for the update on Andy's condition, Mr. Pitt. I sincerely hope that the tumor is benign and that Andy.S will live a long and productive life which it appears, would be a great gift to those who think so highly of him.

As far as detractors, well, while sad that there are always those who will attempt to destroy what is good and beautiful, personally, I feel nothing but sympathy for them and will pray for them that some day they, too, will find a way to be an inspiration, as Andy apparently has done, rather than dwell in a world of negativity.

'It is in giving that we receive' ~ I will say a prayer for Andy, and as I said, even for those who, as yet, have not been able to share in the joy of witnessing something really good for a change.

    It's not all that common in the selfish world we live in and I am happy to know there are such people in the world. It was a beautiful thing to do. Get well Andy, you must be a very special person. :-}

No, the terms were way more complicated than that. One began with an 'a.'

"The cancer could be one of two kinds, and forgive me for not knowing the terms. One kind will mean Andy is looking at good health, and one kind means he will be facing more trouble in the future."

I belive the terms you are looking for are malignant and benign. Malignant being aggressively spreading, benign being happy to stay where it is for the most part.

I hope the cancer Andy had was benign, so that he pulls through with a good recovery.
